I grew up in Calgary, Alberta; and completed my BSc in genetics at the U of A ('94) and my DMD at the Univeristy of British Columbia. I practiced general dentistry in Nanaimo. BC, and returned to the U of A for my MBA (2018). I have been a comprehensive care director for five years focusing on teaching clinical dentistry to third and fourth year DDS students. I'm a Métis and the faculty lead for the student led Access for All program.
I am also the elective program director which matches fourth-year DDS students with preceptor and mentor Dentist in Alberta. It is my passion to see students explore dental career options throughout the province and create long-lasting connections and relationships.
I am currently appointed as an assistant clinical professor and as the comprehensive care director for team one. I graduated from the Mike Petryk School of Dentistry at the University of Alberta in 1991. Since then, I have proudly practiced dentistry in south Edmonton for over 30 years, building long-lasting relationships with patients based on trust and clear communication.
I first joined the school in 2016 as a part-time instructor and have found that helping our students achieve their potential through the course of their years at the school has been very rewarding. Being a part of the supportive program that is offered has allowed me to offer mentorship to our students as they grow into future dental professionals.
I graduated from the University of Alberta, Faculty of Dentistry in 1980. I then joined the College Plaza Dental Associates and practiced there for the next five years. I found this to be a great experience.
In 1985, I built my own office in downtown Edmonton and managed a solo dental practice for 29 years. During this time, I was involved with the U of A dental outreach program as an instructor in High Level and was a part-time comprehensive care clinical instructor.
I accepted a full-time position teaching at the school in 2015. I am the comprehensive care DDS lead for team two and the director of the advanced placement program.
I truly enjoy working in the clinic with the students, staff, and patients and am devoted to bringing out the best in every student, both professionally and personally. I love my job!
After growing up in Alberta I worked towards my BSc at the University of Alberta before joining the University of Manitoba’s dentistry program. Upon graduating in 2005, I worked as a GP for 18 yrs before joining the Mike Petryk School of Dentistry as an instructor.
Raising four active children with my wife taught me the skills of balancing a busy professional life with a busy home life. Now that two of them are young adults I can appreciate the challenges of the next generation. I myself have battled health conditions, anxiety, significant stress, and have come out on the other side. That doesn’t make me an expert in these matters but I’m certainly here to help. Currently I am the comprehensive care director for team 3 and I am grateful to have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our students.

I am the oral and maxillofacial surgery discipline lead for the Mike Petryk School of Dentistry. I started as an associate clinical professor on a part-time basis before joining the faculty full-time. Also, I am actively involved with the general practice residency program, where I mentor the four GPR residents in clinic-based dentoalveolar surgery. I am also a clinical instructor with continuing dental education, and I present lectures and workshops on maxillofacial trauma topics to various military and civilian organizations, and study clubs throughout the country.
I retired from the Canadian Armed Forces after a 21-year career where I accumulated a vast array of memorable and valuable experiences from both professional and personal perspectives. I was the first female oral and maxillofacial surgeon in the Royal Canadian Dental Corps. The highlight of my military career consisted of the two tours of duty in Afghanistan, as the maxillofacial trauma surgeon at the Role 3 Multinational Hospital at Kandahar Air Base.
I graduated from the University of Alberta with a Diploma in Dental Hygiene (1980) and a PhD (2002) from the Faculty of Education. Between the diploma and doctoral degrees, I left Canada for the USA and completed my BSc and MA (Education) degrees at the University of Alabama. When I returned to Alberta in 1984, I started teaching in the Dental Hygiene Program. After completing my PhD, I was appointed Associate Chair and director of the Dental Hygiene Program in the Mike Petryk School of Dentistry. I maintained this role from 2002-2023.
Over my 40-year tenure in the Dental Hygiene program, I have witnessed and navigated numerous challenges that students often encounter in a health professional program encompassing clinical and didactic learning. I am happy to offer my time to support students whenever necessary.
Currently, I divide my time between research, teaching, and service. My research is in two areas: 1) improving oral health for older adults and 2) educational research. In the service role, I am the director of the School of Dentistry’s Educational Research & Scholarship Unit and the MSc (Dental Hygiene) graduate program and co-director of Admissions. I coordinate and teach two courses: D HYG 390 Introduction to Research and D HYG 490 Evidence-Informed Dental Hygiene Practice.
Outside of my professional life, I am the proud mother of three children and grandmother of seven grandchildren. For many years, I was an avid runner and completed 23 marathons, including Boston (three times), London, Berlin, New York, and Chicago. More recently, I have been happy to take brisk walks with my husband and sweet dog Maggie!
Hello! I graduated from Dental Hygiene at the University of Alberta, when it was a diploma program, and went on to get my BSc in Dental Hygiene the following year. I am currently doing my MEd degree in Health Sciences, as well as work part time in a dental office and as an assistant clinical professor at the Kaye Edmonton Clinic.
When I’m not working or studying, I enjoy spending time with my family and being active, whether that is running or walking, as I find that helpful for my well-being.
I look forward to my role as a student advisor and working with the students in their educational journey!
I am a graduate from the University of Alberta’s Dental Hygiene program, class of '85. Since then, I have completed a Bachelor of Health Science degree and recently earned my Master of Education in Health Professions.
Throughout my career, I have worked in clinical practice in both Alberta and British Columbia. In 2007, I began as a clinical instructor in the dental hygiene program. Over the years, my role has expanded to Associate Clinical Professor, where I currently serve as the Year Three Dental Hygiene Clinical Course Coordinator. I also act as a DH Faculty Liaison for the SHINE program.
I am particularly excited to now be working more closely with the Year Two students, as I believe strongly in supporting their growth and development. As a student advisor, I aim to foster a positive learning environment and provide guidance that helps students navigate their academic and professional journeys.
Outside of the university, I am passionate about staying active and enjoy participating in various sports, including tennis, yoga, soccer, and running. These activities not only keep me fit but also help me maintain a balanced lifestyle, which I believe is essential for both personal well-being and professional effectiveness.
I look forward to continuing to support our students and contributing to their success!
