As per standard IPC protocols in the OHC, please ensure operatories are cleaned and disinfected after each clinical session, including after the morning session of an all-day appointment ie. CAD/CAM, etc. This includes returning all instrumentation to the Soiled Counter at the end of the morning session and retrieving sterile/clean instrumentation and equipment prior to the start of the afternoon session.
Procedure codes for Preventive Resin Restorations have been inactivated. Â
For those patients who have already consented to preventive resin restorations, please use caries indicator dye and re-treatment plan as either sealants or a one-surface composite restoration, as most insurance companies may not cover preventive resin restorations but may cover sealants or composite restorations. Â
Shine Dentistry strives to provide immediate dental treatment for patients in pain. Due to limited time and resources, Shine Dentistry may refer their patients to the OHC for the following:
complex extractions
completion of root canal treatment (when O&D is provided by Shine Dentistry)
basic pediatric dentistry.
Effective immediately, patients of the OHC MUST NOT be directed to Shine Dentistry for the sole purpose of being referred back to the OHC for the above listed treatment, as these patients will NOT be eligible to have extractions, root canal treatment, or basic pediatric dentistry completed by the OHC at no cost based on a referral from Shine Dentistry.Â
The following additional sectional matrix rings and Slick matrix band are available at Dispensary.

Disclosing solution stains not only biofilm on teeth, but everything else it lands on! Â
Please wipe clean immediately any surface that disclosing solution accidentally lands on ie. floors, countertops, delivery units, etc as the stain is permanent.
In order to better contain any disclosing solution that is left over from treatment, please use tissue paper to soak up any excess solution before it is discarded.
The OHC has been unable source its current fluoride varnish ie. Nupro 5% NaFl White Varnish, therefore, the OHC has temporarily switched to VOCO Profluorid Varnish (manufacturer's instructions for use). The OHC is expecting the Nupro varnish to arrive in two weeks.
Please note the following:Â Â
Nupro - Instruct patients to remain on a soft–food diet, avoid mouth rinses containing fluoride or alcohol, avoid brushing or flossing treated areas for at least 2 hours following application. Inform your patient that the fluoride varnish may begin to gradually slough off the tooth surface after treatment. Varnish can also be removed after 2 hours by brushing and flossing.
VOCO - Instruct patients to avoid hard food, alcohol, brushing or flossing for 4 hours following application.
Students are reminded to remove the mounting plaster from the mounting plates before plates are placed in the bin.Â
Please ensure all items that were used from within a cassette are replaced inside the cassette before returning it to the Soiled Counter. Please pay particular attention to Composite and Endo cassettes. Â
