Effective immediately, GLUMA® Desensitizer will be available at the dispensary by instructor request only due to the corrosive nature of the material and may only be used under close instructor supervision. Please see the Dental Materials Clinical Reference Manual for additional details for appropriate handling.   Â
WARNING: Always protect mucous membranes by using a rubber dam to prevent glutaraldehyde-induced irritation. Dampen (not soak) only the smallest of applicators (microbrush) with GLUMA®.  Â
NOTE: GLUMA® can adversely affect vision if it contacts the eyes. It should go nowhere near a patient’s eyes - patients should wear eye protection for dental procedures universally.Â
DDS and DH students will no longer be assigned their own sphygmomanometer. Starting January 2, 2024, sphygmomanometers (ie blood pressure cuffs) will be stored in the cupboard of each OHC operatory - please see photo of cupboard and container in which sphygmomanometer will be located below in the picture.
Please note:Â students will still be assigned their own stethoscope, which they will need to bring to all clinical appointments.
DDS and DH students will receive an email from Keri Pilon or Sherri Cook in the next few weeks with details about returning their assigned sphygmomanometers - please watch email inboxes.
DH4 students will also be contacted when their assigned stethoscopes are available for pick up.
Treatment providers will be responsible for disinfecting (double wiping with Caviwipes) the sphygmomanometer after each use and placing it back in the appropriate container in the operatory cupboard.
Please contact Keri Pilon with any questions or concerns.
Additional Pouring/Mounting Stations will be ready to use on the "dry side" of the KEC Student Lab starting Monday, December 11th!
Buff lab stone and Snow White mounting plaster will be available in drawers adjacent to the three sinks. For convenience, vacumixers have been mounted on the countertop near each sink.Â
As the start of the Winter Term quickly approaches, DH students are reminded to NOT sharpen multiple cassettes at one time. Please only sharpen cassettes that are required for an upcoming clinical session so that staff in Central Sterilization are not overloaded by processing cassettes that are not required within a 24-48 hour time frame.
Please contact Keri Pilon with any questions or concerns.
Patients requiring the use of a restroom during their appointment should be escorted by their assigned student. Students are reminded to wait for their patient and accompany them back to the appropriate operatory. Â
There were a few patients last week who had difficulty finding their way back to the operatory on their own.
