Dear Staff, Faculty and Students,
Good News! COVID-19 vaccine is available for our cohort!
As a part of the Government’s Phase 2C group, healthcare workers in patient care facilities or who provide services directly to clients in the community are eligible to book a COVID-19 immunization appointment.
Please visit the Alberta Health Services Immunization Booking Page to book your vaccine at an AHS Immunization Centre or at a designated pharmacy.
While immunization against COVID-19 is not mandatory for our school community, it is strongly encouraged. It is important that our community remains as healthy as possible so that we can be safe together and continue to provide dental care to our patients.
After your COVID-19 immunization some side effects are normal, but what if your side effects are the same as the symptoms for COVID-19? Please visit the My Health Alberta COVID-19 Vaccine Aftercare page for information on what to expect and how to manage COVID-like symptoms.Â
There is a recommended time gap between receiving other vaccinations and a COVID-19 vaccine as detailed in this Health Canada Recommendations On the Use of COVID-19 Vaccines document. If you have received a vaccine for something else, you must wait 14 days before you can receive the COVID-19 vaccine. If you have received the COVID-19 vaccine, you must wait for 28 days after receiving your COVID-19 vaccine before receiving any other vaccinations.
Remember:
COVID-19 is still a very real threat in our communities. Variants of concern have significantly increased in recent weeks and our continued vigilance both on and off campus is required to keep everyone safe.
If you have COVID-19 symptoms, the first step is always to fill out a Fit for Work form. If you are unsure of what your next steps are, please contact the IPC Team at dentIPC@ualberta.ca.
Wear a mask whenever you are out in public, clean your hands often and avoid any gatherings.

Dr. Khaled Altabtbaei, IPC Officer
