Clinical Professional Conduct
Infringement Report
Infringement reports are a mechanism to log ‘professional teaching moments’ which will commonly occur until students become comfortable with the professionalism required within their new role. Clinical staff, instructors and course directors complete infringement reports when they recognize a need to intervene and/or correct students on their actions associated with:
patient communication
collegiality
interprofessional relationships
accountability
sense of responsibility
patient safety
Students can also bring collegiality concerns forward by completing an infringement report.
The DDS III and IV clinical course directors (Dr. Doris Lunardon and Dr. Zuzanna Apel) receive the infringement reports. These will be assessed and then handled accordingly.
These reports are not anonymous. When an infringement report is logged, the course director will contact the sender to acknowledge receipt and obtain further information, if required. The course director will share the report with the student’s CC director. The CC director will then contact the student alleged of the infringement who should anticipate the following:
An immediate notification of the report and a copy of the documented situation.
An opportunity to meet the CC director to discuss the report.
An opportunity to work towards remedy and to log efforts and outcomes if required.
Infringement reports contribute direct evidence of a student's developing professionalism. Students who wish to report a professional concern anonymously should meet with their student adviser, CC director or the course director in person for advice.
