Nurse & HSE Advisor: We would like to inform everyone that our school nurse has retired, and we are in the process of filling this position, with hopes to have it filled by October. Please understand that the HR approval and recruitment processes can take some time. In the meantime, any medical emergencies that arise during patient care will need to be managed by the supervising instructor. Additionally, those requesting extra health information from Netcare should expect delays as we train new authorized Netcare custodians.
REMINDER: CPR Training & Clinical Preparation Course
You should have received an email on June 16 regarding your enrollment in the CPR Training & Clinical Preparation Course.
Please take a moment to review the information provided in that email. The deadlines for the course components are as follows:
The online portion of the CPR training must be completed by August 22, 2025.
The Clinical Preparation Course must be completed by August 25, 2025.
Thank you for your attention to these important dates.
NEW: At the beginning of the HIA and Risk Management modules, faculty and staff can now upload an existing certificate or proof of completion and set renewal reminders.
UPDATE: Medical History Form Changes
A new section has been added to the Medical History form. This has also been added in axiUm.
NEW: The Caries Risk Assessment form has a new look in axiUm!Â
Please see the link in Dentranet for more information on the new CAMBRA guidelines.Â
IMPORTANT: VCS Outages
When VCS is down, access to axiUm and Sidexis was previously unavailable. However, moving forward, each operatory's computers will have direct access to both axiUm and Sidexis. In the event of a VCS outage, our IT team will be able to unlock all clinic computers from the back end, allowing us to restore functionality in a very short time.
IT TEAM UPDATE: Alex Lin will be joining us from IST and will be taking over for Eugene to provide support to our staff / students in the clinic. As part of IST's support model, we will see various staff cycle through the clinic over the year every 3 to 4 months and Alex is the start of this. By regularly transitioning IST staff, we can ensure that more of their staff can be familiarized with how we operate. Plus, having more staff trained in the clinic will help with coverage so that we can always have someone available in the clinic for support. Alex can also provide support for staff and students in Kipnes and Katz on an as needed basis. He can be reached via the Dent Support email at dsupport@ualberta.ca.Â
Please join me in welcoming Alex to the team and a special thanks to Eugene for all his amazing support over the last year!
We wanted to share a comment we received from one of our patients through our SoD OHC Patient Satisfaction Survey:
"I find the students are very hard working and strive to do the work to the best of their abilities. The instructors are also very professional, extremely knowledgeable and helpful with any situation their students may encounter. Bravo!"
