ATTENTION: Â Supervision Requirements of Treatment Providers in the OHC
To ensure patient safety and quality of care, the following protocol outlines the supervision requirements for undergraduate students and clinical graduate students in the Oral Health Clinic:
All undergraduate students and clinical graduate students may only provide treatment to patients under the direct supervision of their assigned faculty member, who must be physically present in the clinic before any treatment starts and remain present until the patient has been dismissed.
The assigned supervising instructor must be present at all times during the delivery of patient care in all clinical programs*
Undergraduate students must not invite patients into the clinic unless their supervising instructor is present and has approved the action.
Graduate students may only invite patients into the clinic to review medical/dental histories and consent forms without direct supervision of their assigned instructor.
*GPR residents and Faculty Practice treatment providers are exempt from this protocol.
Non-compliance with this protocol may result in corrective actions, including loss of patient interaction privileges, as determined by the respective program director and Associate Chair, Clinical Affairs.
Thanks for your attention to this matter.
NEWS: Dresden Exchange Students
We are delighted to welcome seven exchange students from Dresden, Germany, who will be visiting our school from June 9th to 20th. They will be attending clinical sessions in KEC, Glenrose Hospital and the Boyle clinic as well as some of the DDS 3 lectures and seminars. Please join us in extending a warm welcome to our international guests!
We wanted to share a comment we received from one of our patients through our SoD OHC Patient Satisfaction Survey:
"I found the process much more engaging than other dental health experiences I've had. The student and instructor overseeing my care both did an excellent job explaining procedures and it is the first time I have felt involved in my dental treatment."
