According to information shared in a recent Continuous Masking Update by Mauro Chies, AHS President & CEO, “AHS is rescinding the Use of Masks During COVID-19 Directive, effective June 19, 2023. As a result, AHS will no longer require continuous masking at all AHS facilities... This applies to all patients, families, and visitors at AHS facilities...".Â
School of Dentistry employees, students and visitors (not patients) will still be required to wear a mask when the risks of a given activity or location require it. Individuals may still choose to wear a mask when it is not required.
Masks will continue to be available in all Dispensaries.
Masks DO NOT need to be worn:
when entering KEC, including the pedway from Kipnes to KEC
in non-patient care areas of the OHC, unless otherwise indicated by the risk present
non-patient care areas include MMC, Dispensaries, Central Sterilization (clean side), OHC alcoves, Patient Services, Staff Lounge, Office Spaces/Meeting Rooms, KEC Student Lab, Prosthodontics Laboratory, Orthodontics Laboratory
when escorting patients to/from Patient Services, unless within 2 meters of ongoing patient care along the way.
Masks and approved eye protection must be worn:
when within, or chance of being within, 2 meters of ongoing patient care
when participating in simulation activities in the Simulation LabÂ
when participating in peer clinics in the OHC
when working in Central Sterilization (decontamination side)
when working intraorally in Radiology
when working in non-patient care areas with materials and/or equipment that require the use of a mask and approved eye protection, according to respective Safe Operating Procedures
Overgowns
Overgowns must be worn:
when disinfecting an operatory prior to or after patient care
when involved in patient care as an operator, assistant, circulator or instructor
when cleaning up an operatory after patient care
when decontaminating instruments & equipment in Central Sterilization
Scrubs, Head Covers & Clinic Shoes
Scrubs, head covers and clinic shoes (closed-toe, closed-heel, non-slip grip) must be worn:
when participating in patient care as an operator, assistant, circulator, observer or instructor
when participating in simulation activities in the Simulation LabÂ
when participating in peer clinics in the OHC
Please note that the Radiology Viewing Room has moved from 8B.131 to 8A.124. Â
Also note that room 8B.131 will no longer be available as a meeting room
Please ensure curing lights are placed back into the composite cassettes when returning used items to the Soiled Counter. Your help with this is greatly appreciated!

Approved Eye Protection includes:
safety glasses with built in solid side shields & brow flange
prescription safety glasses with build in solid side shields & brow flange
Over The Glasses (OTG) safety glasses
standard prescription eyeglasses with only disposable side shields added are NOT ACCEPTABLE
face shield
