Why did you decide to teach at the Mike Petryk School of Dentistry?
After working in private practice for about 15 years, I attended a study club meeting where one of my previous instructors mentioned they were looking for clinical instructors for the dental hygiene program. I thought, why not? Here I am four years later and glad I decided to go for it!
What do you like best about the school?
Being around the students and my colleagues revives my passion for dental hygiene, as they are all so inspiring and passionate about the profession.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your background.
Growing up in a small town in Northern Alberta, there was only one dental clinic, and the dental hygienist would only come about twice a month to provide treatment. Being one of those people who actually enjoyed going to the dentist (I know, right?!) made me inclined to pursue a career in the dental field. Moving to the big city of Edmonton was intimidating at the time, but now I'm proud to call it home!
What are your hobbies and passions?
I enjoy spending time with my family whenever I can, in between working, teaching, and completing my master's degree. My hobbies include going for walks/runs/hikes, cooking/baking and reading. I am also very passionate about travelling to places I have never been before!
What is your favourite travel story?
I think one of my favourite travel adventures was going to Hawaii, which included hiking to waterfalls, walking on a volcano crater, and touring Kualoa Ranch, which is the backdrop for many movies, including Jurassic Park.
