Ingredients:
- 2 cups milk
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 6 tablespoons butter, melted
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- Pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions:
- Mix Wet Ingredients:
- In a medium-sized bowl, combine the milk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter. Stir until well mixed.
- Add Dry Ingredients:
- Add the pinch of salt, baking soda, and sugar to the bowl. Mix until combined.
- Incorporate Flour:
- Gradually fold in the flour until the batter becomes smooth and lump-free.
- Prepare for Frying:
- Pour the batter mixture into a gallon-sized Ziplock bag and set aside for a few minutes.
- Heat the Oil:
- Pour vegetable oil into a frying pan until it’s about a half-inch deep. Heat the oil on high for two minutes, then reduce to medium heat.
- Test the Oil:
- To check if the oil is ready, drop a small bit of batter into it. If bubbles form around the edges, the oil is hot enough. If not, increase the heat slightly until it’s ready.
- Shape and Fry:
- Cut a small hole in the bottom corner of the Ziplock bag. Gently drizzle the batter into the oil in 1 to 2-inch circles. Cook until the bottom is golden brown.
- Flip and Cook:
- Carefully flip the funnel cake bites using a slotted metal spatula and cook until the other side is also golden brown.
- Drain and Serve:
- Place the cooked bites on paper towels to absorb excess grease. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with whipped cream or fresh fruit if desired.
