INGREDIENTS:
3 1/2 (3.5) pounds round steaks or cube steaks
1 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
1 Tablespoon Cajun seasoning
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 cups beef broth
2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
3 whole onions sliced thin
1 bell pepper sliced thin
1 package Lipton Onion Soup Mix
2 cans cream of mushroom soup
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Salt and pepper the cube steak.
2. Dip both sides in the flour and shake off excess.
3. Heat a skillet with the vegetable oil.
4. Brown both sides of each piece of steak. You do not have to cook the meat until it is done. Just brown the outsides.
5. Spray the slow cooker with a cooking spray.
6. Layer the sliced onions and bell pepper.
7. Layer the steak on top of the onions and bell pepper.
8. In a bowl, mix the mushroom soup, onion soup mix, beef broth, Worcestershire, garlic powder, Cajun seasoning, and paprika. Poor over steak in slow cooker.
9. Cook on low 6 to 8 hours.
10. Good served over rice, mashed potatoes or egg noodles.
NOTES:
▪︎Use a 6 or 7-quart slow cooker to make this smothered steak.
▪︎It is better to brown the meat before placing in slow cooker rather than simply season and flour the steak and toss it in the slow cooker. It works, but browning tastes much better.
▪︎Be sure to mix the mushroom soup, onion soup mix, beef broth, Worcestershire, garlic powder, Cajun seasoning, and paprika together before adding it to the slow cooker.
The slow cooker is so full not everything will be seasoned well if you do not stir it together first.
▪︎I like to use cajun seasonings like Slap Ya Mama or Tony Chachere's
