1 Von der Ferne kamen wir; in die Ferne sind wir gegangen; in die Ferne gehen wir wieder;
1 We came from afar; we have gone into the distance; we will return to the distance again;
2 und jene Ferne liegt jenseits des großen Spiegels.
2 and that distance lies beyond the great mirror.
3 Aus seinem Wasser tranken wir einst das Leben; in seinem Lichte wurden wir wach. Ewiglich sind wir nun in jener, in dieser, in aberjener Welt.
3 Once, we drank life from its water; in its light, we awoke. Eternally, we are now—in that world, in this world, and in another.
4 Unauslöschlich stehen unsere Namen,
4 Our names are indelible;
5 unsichtbar sind wir in uns.
5 we are invisible within ourselves.
6 Und wie wir so sind, tragen wir unsere Kleider, Körper, in welchen wir sind.
6 And as we are, we wear our clothes, our bodies, in which we exist.
7 Was aber wir sind, das ist nicht das Kleid, ist nicht die Haut, ist nicht das Fleisch, ist nicht das Blut - ist das Selbstsein von jenseits des Spiegels.
7 But what we are is not the clothing, not the skin, not the flesh, not the blood—it is the self from beyond the mirror.
8 So ist das hier Unsichtbare das dort Wirkliche und das dort Wirkliche das hier Unsichtbare.
8 So, what is invisible here is real there, and what is real there is invisible here.
9 Nichts nehmen wir in die nächste Welt mit von dem, was sich hier greifen lässt, alles aber, was sich nicht greifen lässt - an Gedanken und an vollbrachten Taten.
9 We take nothing with us into the next world from what can be grasped here; but everything that cannot be grasped—thoughts and deeds—are carried along.
10 Und nach alledem hier Unsichtbaren, welches wir mitnehmen in die andere Welt, nach dem wird das Maß uns angelegt werden für unsere neuen Kleider im Jenseits des großen Spiegels.
10 And after all that is invisible here, which we take into the other world, a measure will be set for us for our new garments in the beyond of the great mirror.
11 Denn die Form ist ewig, welche die unsere ist,
11 For the form is eternal, which is ours,
12 der Name ist ewig, den wir tragen,
12 the name is eternal, which we bear,
13 das Leben ist ewig, das wir durchwandern,
13 life is eternal, which we traverse,
14 das Fühlen ist ewig, das uns bestimmt,
14 feeling is eternal, which determines us,
15 die Art der Leibeskleider aber wechselt von Welt zu Welt, einerjeden gemäß;
15 but the manner of bodily garments changes from world to world, each accordingly;
16 denn einmalig nur durchwandern wir diese Welt,
16 for we only pass through this world once,
17 nach dieser aber noch viele andere, bis schließlich die Heimat wir schauen.
17 and after that, many others, until finally we see our homeland.
18 Von der Ferne her sind wir gekommen, in die Ferne kehren wir heim; jenseits des großen Spiegels.
18 We have come from afar; we return home into the distance—beyond the great mirror.
19 Und wie ein Spiegel das Bild umkehrt, so ist auch das Jenseits ein Abbild des Diesseits und das Diesseits ist ein Abbild des Jenseits; und doch auch von vollkommen anderer Art.
19 And just as a mirror reverses the image, so too is the afterlife a reflection of this world, and this world a reflection of the afterlife; yet both are of a completely different kind.
20 Das Sterben aber ist ein Augenblick bloß in der Ewigkeit unseres Seins, gleich der Geburt.
20 But death is merely a moment in the eternity of our being, just like birth.
21 Die Kleider wechseln wir nur.
21 We only change our clothes.
22 Der Kampf aber währt fort.
22 But the struggle continues.
23 Erkennet, was ist - so werdet ihr bestehen.
23 Recognize what is—then you will endure.
24 Es sind aber welche, die durch den Spiegel gegangen, und nicht verstanden.
24 Yet there are some who have gone through the mirror and did not understand.
25 Solche, die sich zurücksehnen nach der Erdenwelt,
25 Those who long back for the earthly world,
26 die dringen ein oft in irdisch noch lebende Menschen, um sich ihrer irdischen Sinne wohl zu bedienen.
26 who often intrude into still-living earthly beings to enjoy their earthly senses.
27 So geschieht mitunter, daß einer meint, neugeboren zu sein auf der Erde, weil an gar Altes er sich erinnern kann -
27 Sometimes, someone believes they are reborn on Earth because they remember something very old—
28 ist aber doch nur das, was des Dahingegangen Erinnerung ist, der Besitz hat ergriffen von ihm.
28 but it is only the memory of what has passed away; possession has seized it.
29 Denn einmalig ist das Durchwandern der Erdenwelt für einejede und für einenjeden -
29 For each and every one, the journey through the earthly world is unique—
30 jenseits des Spiegels nimmt Fortgang das ewige Leben;
30 beyond the mirror, eternal life continues;
31 in einer ganz anderen Welt.
31 in a completely different world.
32 Wer durch den Spiegel blickt von der anderen Seite in diese, der sieht die Bilder des Geistes aller da:
32 Whoever looks through the mirror from the other side into this one sees the images of the spirit of all there:
33 Der Menschen und der Tiere und der Pflanzen, und sieht auch alles, was da gedacht wird -
33 humans, animals, and plants, and also everything that is thought—
34 denn Gedanken sind Bilder.
34 for thoughts are images.
35 Auf der Scheide des großen Spiegels aber liegen die Welten des Schlafes.
35 On the threshold of the great mirror lie the worlds of sleep.
36 In ihnen ruhen die Seelen der Menschen sich aus;
36 In them, the souls of humans rest;
37 dort begegnen sie ihren Schatten.
37 there they meet their shadows.
38 Aus der Ferne sind wir gekommen -
38 We have come from afar—
39 in die Ferne werden wir gehen,
39 and into the distance, we will go,
40 heimgehen in die Welten jenseits des Spiegels.
40 returning home into the worlds beyond the mirror.
