This week's Wildcat Way is Mrs. Kraenzlein! Recently, Mrs. Kraenzlein has stepped in to help out in the Attendance Office. She has done a fantastic job of managing the attendance entrance and making suggestions that have improved the functionality and safety of the space. When not in the attendance office, she monitors the building and supports all staff and students by checking on students, running messages and passes, and building relationships with students. She is a team player and is always able and willing to jump in wherever she is needed. We are lucky to have someone so dedicated and versatile on our team as our Security Staff!

Counseling
SENIORS -
Complete the FAFSA - this has to be done if you plan on taking advantage of the Community College Guarantee. If you need help completing the FAFSA, see your counselor or Mrs. Taratuta in the Wildcat Den.
Apply for scholarships - even if you are using the Community College Guarantee and staying at ACC, you can use scholarship money for other expenses like transportation, books, fees, etc. Community Foundation and ACCs website would be good places to start.
Make sure your final schedule includes all the classes you need for graduation. If you are unsure, make an appointment to see your counselor. If you failed something in first semester, make sure it will not interfere with graduation. If you are not taking any college classes, you should have 6 classes in your schedule. If you do not have a full schedule of classes, please see your counselor immediately.
2026-2027 Scheduling Update
Starting on Thursday, core class teachers will be sharing with students specific information about departments and scheduling details. English Teachers will be passing out scheduling sheets on Friday.
Counselors will be meeting with students during their English 9, 10, or 11 classes to double check course request selections for the 2026-2027 school year.
Juniors will be meeting with counselors the last week of February.
Sophomores will be meeting with counselors the 1st week of March.
Freshmen will meet with counselors the 2nd week of March.

Get your Spirit on!!!!!
Participate in spirit week by dressing the part each day to earn entries for drawings to win Campus Closet gift cards. Tickets will be awarded in your second hour classes throughout the week.
Winterfest Assembly Expectations:
Students will sit with their grade
Stay in the assembly the entire time
Notify staff if they need to leave the gym
Be respectful of all speakers
Have fun celebrating with your peers!
Winterfest Passes for Non- AHS students are available: Deadline Thursday, 2/19 at 8:00 am
If you have a friend that you want to bring to the Winterfest dance, they MUST have a pass to attend. You may pick up the green passes from the document folders on the wall just outside of the Main Office. Please have them filled out completely and return them to the Main Office or to Mrs. Whiteman across from E-house office.
Winterfest Eligibility ❄️
Happy Winterfest Week! Here is what you need to know about dance eligibility:
In order to attend the dance, students must be passing at least 4 classes. There are no exceptions.
If a student’s grade improves before the dance, they will be able to purchase a ticket.
It is up to individual teachers to set deadlines for grading late or missing work.
Please do not expect teachers to grade late or missing work the week or day of the dance without arranging something with them first.
Students must be present for 90% of their classes this semester.
Attendance reports will be run for this semester only. This will include 1/20/2026 - 2/17/2026.
Students who have missed more than 10% of classes and their absences are unexcused will not be eligible for the dance. There will be no way to make up for the missing attendance prior to the dance.

Reminder to ALL Visitors to Alpena High School!!!!!
If you are visiting the school for any reason, you MUST enter from the back oval and go to Main Office to check in. If you are dropping a student off after 7:30 am, you MUST drive to the back oval to enter through the Main Office. If you attempt to enter through any other door, you will be directed to go to the Main Office.
This is a building policy that is in place to ensure safety for all. We appreciate your attention to this and helping us keep our building safe and secure at all times.
Yearbook Reminders!!!!! Times change and memories fade. Yearbooks help us hold onto them and revisit them for years to come.
This is a reminder to order your student’s yearbook before February 22 if you haven’t already.
High school yearbooks are different—our yearbook staff works hard to capture every student’s story. Yearbook distribution is always an exciting day, and we typically do not have extra copies available. Once they are sold out, they are gone forever.

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
Student Climate Team will be trained to conduct peer mediation for students who are in conflict with one another. The goal of having peer mediation at AHS is to help create a more positive culture in our school where both sides win and one party doesn't feel as if they are being treated unfairly. Please see Mr. Robarge in the Restorative Center (School Success) if you need help resolving an issue. Peer mediators don't take sides or place blame on anyone!
Have you ever wondered how our school lunch menus are created? Curious about what goes into deciding a snow day? Or perhaps you’ve been puzzled by terms like "collective bargaining agreement" or wondered why the district can’t purchase gifts for staff?
If so, we invite you to participate in our "ASK APS" initiative. This is your chance to ask the questions that matter to you. Each month, we’ll select questions that are intriguing, timely, or widely relevant to answer in the Superintendent's Update, Central Office communications, school newsletters, or even at Board meetings.
While we may not be able to address every question, we’re committed to answering as many as we can.
