EMPOWERING 21ST CENTURY GRADUATES
Congrats on your selection...
Officer Jason Collegnon
Contributor: Citizenship- Recognize the importance of their role in our connected world; Involvement- Willing to actively engage to make a positive difference; Community Oriented- Able to balance self-interest with the needs of society.
Officer Jason was a welcome addition to AHS. He has been a great support to staff, a mentor to students, and always up for a good laugh. You will find him chatting with students in the halls, answering questions about his career, or sometimes dancing in the commons. When his job requires that he meets with students, he always treats them with dignity and respect, making sure that he maintains a relationship with them after. Thanks for the positivity that you've brought to the halls of AHS!
Congrats on your selection!
Graduation Sunday ~ 1:30pm
Graduation begins at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday (the backup rain date is Monday at 7:00 pm) and the stadium entrance main gate will open at 12:30pm (5:30pm rain date), but not any sooner. We need all guests to sit in the bleachers and handicap seating will be in the front row. Again, ticket takers will not be at the entrance any sooner than 12:30/5:30. The inclement weather call for Sunday will be 10am. It will go out on all social media platforms, robo call/email, and radio stations.
Students will report to the varsity baseball fields for preparation beginning at 12:30. We need graduates to dress for the occasion. No shorts! If you decorated your CAP, you must be on the Student Council approved spreadsheet. You will not wear your CAP if you did not get it approved on June 2nd.
Following the ceremony, students will return to the baseball field to pick up their diplomas. Feel free to take photos with your graduate and family at that time! You should also take time to go to AHS and get pictures in front of the Wildcat and rock garden.
Guests must have a ticket to enter. Students will be given 6 tickets on Friday during Senior Experience Day. If students need additional tickets, they need to ask their friends for extras, and if they aren’t successful, there will be a table at the stadium on Friday following the walkthrough with additional tickets. Tickets will only be given to students. Please contact the Main Office (358-5200) for urgent ticket issues after Friday afternoon.
The ceremony is outdoors so please wear sunscreen and hats to protect yourself-- we are ordering up sunshine and warm weather for the Class of 2023!
We are super excited to partner with GT Sounds and Soundesigns, who will not only compliment our ceremony, but will be broadcasting the ceremony live through YouTube. You will use this link to connect Alpena Public School YouTube. Additionally, we are going to have our NFHS Network Sports Broadcast that will go live at 1:00 pm and run through 4:00 pm.
Link and directions.
Parking will be at the stadium with both entrances open. The M-32 entrance will have police assistance following the ceremony. There will be security assisting with parking, so please do your best to follow their leads and remember - safety first as you exit - there will be many people excitedly moving about the area.
An all school assembly to celebrate you and create a college bound mindset, military commitment, entering workforce, or a PLUS1 in some manner was great to showcase the 2023 graduates!
Get thinking on what your PLUS1 will entail and stop in anytime so we can chat and start that process!

Congratulations on being a member of the graduating class of 2023. It is a great accomplishment and something, I hope, you all feel proud about as you take that next step in your life/career.
As you know, on graduation you will be able to keep your Chromebook. Additionally, your APS student email account will be disabled. The goal of this email is to share some information on when these items will be completed and what you can expect. Please take a moment to review the information. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Chromebook:
On Friday, June 2, 2023, the command will be sent to your Chromebooks to remove them from APS control.
What to except with the reset:
After the reset command is sent, the next time you connect to wireless on your Chromebook, it will restart and reboot in the "out of the box" experience. At this point, all APS control will be removed from the device and you would need to create your local account.
If you are online at the moment the command is sent - it will reboot without warning.
You can create your local profile using your APS account but we suggest that you look into creating/using another Gmail account as your email account will be disabled (see below)
After the reset, the device is yours to do as you see best. APS would no longer provide any support, repairs, etc.
Email Account:
Your APS student email account will be disabled on Monday, August 1, 2023. This should give you plenty of time to have important emails changed to another account or to extract/copy emails that you may need. Once your account is deactivated you will not be able to access it and anyone who emails it will receive a rejection message.
Please be sure to let others know of your account change (especially colleges or those with other important communications you may require moving forward).
Thank you and congratulations!

On Wednesday, the Alpena High School (AHS) Boys’ Golf Team competed in MHSAA Regionals at Timber Ridge Golf Course. They placed third out of 20 teams, with a team score of 340, qualifying as a team for the MHSAA Division Two State Finals! Flint Powers and DeWitt also qualified out of Region 10, with Regional Champion Powers shooting 330, and DeWitt shooting 333.
Sophomore Harrison Kaszubowski led the team with a score of 82, including an even-par 36 on his front nine. Senior Gavin Hamp also shot 82, placing both of them in the Top Ten Individuals in the tournament. Senior Anden Marceau carded an 87; senior Easton Schultz shot 89, and Junior Avery Spicer rounded out the scores with a 95.
This marks the first time in AHS history that the Boys’ Golf has qualified for State Finals as a team! They will compete at the Fortress in Frankenmuth on June 9-10th. Congratulations and good luck to the Wildcat Golf team and coach Skiba!
Alpena’s Downtown Development Authority is looking for a new student to represent the youth voice on its board. This is an opportunity to be one of the youngest local government board members in the country and make a significant impact on the place you live.
1.) This is one of the most effective ways you can impact your community at your age, and if you
really want to make a difference in the place you live, there’s really no better way to do that.
2.) This looks really, really good on high school resumes and job applications. You would make
history as one of the DDA’s first-ever student members and be one of the youngest local government
board members in the country.
3.) You can develop personal leadership and communication skills that should be transferable to
whatever field you go into. Working with business owners, community leaders, and the mayor
will strengthen qualities that jobs outside of politics look for. (Many graduating student members
aren’t planning to major in political science)

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
PEER MEDIATION
AHS now has trained student peer mediators to help solve conflicts between students! If you are in conflict with another student, please see me in Room E110 or you can e-mail me at robargeb@alpenaschools.com Remember, peer mediators are trained not to take sides or place blame on anyone.
