EMPOWERING 21ST CENTURY GRADUATES
Congrats on your selection...
Sophie Kindt
Continuous Learner: Ownership- Take personal responsibility to drive their own learning; Resilient- Approach problems with a growth mindset; Passionate- Pursue and expand areas of academic and personal interest
Sophie is a leader by example in class. She tackles difficult work with confidence and hard work. She is an excellent example of what a good student is. She works hard, does everything that is asked of her, and is successful.
Counseling Corner: The Counseling Department would like to wish you and your family the merriest of Christmases and a wonderfully Happy New Year! Use the break to rest and rejuvenate!
Some of you may want to consider using the holiday break to relieve the stress of having lower or failing grades due to missing work. Even taking just a half hour here and there over break to do some work could help a lot! You will feel better when we return in January if you can come back with some missing work ready to turn in.
For those with online courses: You are not required to do online work over break. However, if you're behind, this could be a great time to catch up, or even to work ahead and finish early if you so choose. You can do it!
Mental Health Fun Fact: Several nutritional deficiencies, such as vitamin B12, B9 (folate), and zinc, can cause symptoms of depression and dementia such as low mood, fatigue, cognitive decline, and irritability. Be sure you are getting a well balanced diet so that your brain can function at its best. No, this doesn't mean three square meals of macaroni and cheese per day, but yes, a few Christmas treats are fine!
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!
Congrats to all of you on your selections!

10th grade advisory has been exploring virtual reality with Oculus headsets throughout Nov/Dec. After working out some kinks with IT and wifi we have been able to experience some cool programs. Special thanks to Blake Bartlett for his help! It will continue after the new year on a once a month time slot during their advisory class but will hopefully be available to explore more independently throughout lunch periods in Wildcat Den. These are 4 of the apps they will have the opportunity to investigate. This is made possible by the MI GEAR UP grant partnership with U of M Dearborn.

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
PEER MEDIATION
AHS now has trained student peer mediators to help solve conflicts between students! If you are in conflict with another student, please see me in Room E110 or you can e-mail me at robargeb@alpenaschools.com Remember, peer mediators are trained not to take sides or place blame on anyone.
