Counseling
Counselor Corner:
Seniors: Don't forget that October is Free College Application Month for several Michigan colleges. You can either apply to colleges directly on their website or use the Common Application at www.commonapp.org. The Common App will require you to write some essays, so work on them now! Do you need help? Come to the Plus 1 College Prep Workshop in the Wildcat Den on 10/15/24 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. You can get help with college applications and essays and get questions answered on Parchment, Common App, and FAFSA as well.
Not happy with your SAT score? Planning to re-take it? The next date is 11/2/24 and the deadline for regular registration for that test date is 10/18. See your counselor for a fee waiver before you register so you can re-take it for FREE.
Seniors: Have you made your appointment to see your counselor yet? You need to do that SOON. Student Counseling Appointment Form
Sophomores: See Mrs. Taratuta in the Media Center if you're interested in upcoming college visits to various Michigan colleges.

Testing Updates
AP Test Registration will begin this week:
This week, AP Teachers will provide students in AP Classrooms information about registering for AP tests using their College Board accounts, and students will be able to sign up for their AP Tests.
Please note, there is a fee for each AP test. Payment can be made in the Main Office at AHS and checks should be made out to Alpena Public Schools.
Test Registration deadline is Friday, November, 1st 2024.
ASVAB Registration Deadline was extended.
The new test registration deadline is 3:00pm on Wednesday, October 16th.
Use this form to Sign up for the ASVAB.
SAT Prep and the NMSQT/PSAT10 (Tues, Oct. 29th)
Students can practice full length SAT tests in College Board Bluebook. Students will first need to create an account. Students should use a personal email address (non-school) when creating an account so students can access their scores after they graduate from AHS! APS student emails are disabled after graduation so a private email is essential if a student needs to reset a password.

AHS Upcoming Events
We're excited to announce the UNITE’s Arrive Alive Tour, a leading drunk and distracted driving awareness event, is coming to our school thanks to Officer Collegnon, Chet Spencer and the support of Jason Barbeau Agency of Michigan Farm Bureau Insurance!
What is it? This tour features a cutting-edge simulator that lets you experience the dangers of distracted and impaired driving safely. Students will gain valuable insights into safe driving habits that can last a lifetime.
Who can participate? We're looking for interested 10th and 11th graders. The simulator can accommodate 15-20 students per session. As you know, many of you share the same students, so they only need to sign up for one session which works best for them.
How to sign up: Please fill out the Google Form by the end of the day on Monday to express your interest. If more students sign up than available spots, we'll conduct a lottery.
When and where: The simulator will be set up in front of the Wildcat, with easy access from the auditorium. Staff will be present to monitor attendance and ensure a smooth process. The list of names for each session will be given to attendance and coded SA.
Thank you for your support in promoting safe driving!
