EMPOWERING 21ST CENTURY GRADUATES
Olivia Sherwood
~ Congrats on your selection!
Continuous Learner: Ownership- Take personal responsibility to drive their own learning; Resilient- Approach problems with a growth mindset; Passionate- Pursue and expand areas of academic and personal interest.
Olivia has been a stellar student her freshman year. As a member of the swim team and someone who misses class for school activities, Olivia really separates herself from other athletes in her effort to stay on top of her work. When she knows she is going to miss school she emails for her work, and it is done when she comes back. When she is in class she makes her group members better students and finds ways to deal with conflict within the group rather than bringing every small problem to her teachers.
Congratulations to you all

Students ~ Anticipating to graduate early at the end of semester 1?
Students who will have successfully completed graduation requirements after seven (7) semesters may petition to graduate by Thanksgiving of that school year. The discussion on graduating early should be done with the student’s Guidance Counselor during the senior meeting and/or during a junior appointment in the spring of the junior year. Early graduates must take full responsibility to make arrangements with the high school office for anything pertaining to the graduation ceremony (i.e., announcements, cap and gown, graduation rehearsal). Students who graduate early and participate in the commencement ceremony have the opportunity to participate in Senior Experience Day and the Senior Celebration.
DUAL ENROLLMENT: If you have not scheduled an appointment with your counselor yet for semester 2 dual enrollment classes..... you need to ASAP. ACC classes are filling up!
Reminder to AHS Families
AHS is on a semester report card system and DOES NOT issue quarter grades and report cards like TBJH ~ Report cards will be available about one week after the end of the semester January 22nd
Final Exams will be held on the last three days of the semester (Final Exam Schedule TBA), and teachers will review class expectations with all students
There is a final exam/project/culminating experience, etc. in every class at AHS
Parents had the opportunity to seek out teachers at conferences two weeks ago, and I hope the experience was worthwhile and meaningful
You are always welcome to email any staff member and/or set up an appointment if necessary
You can always follow up via ParentVue to see current grades
I hope the clarification helps with any confusion for parents that have students in both buildings

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
PEER MEDIATION
AHS now has trained student peer mediators to help solve conflicts between students! If you are in conflict with another student, please see me in Room E110 or you can e-mail me at robargeb@alpenaschools.com Remember, peer mediators are trained not to take sides or place blame on anyone.
