EMPOWERING 21ST CENTURY GRADUATES
AHS Leadership/SLS/Student Council and Student Climate
The Wildcat Way is exemplified here with the Freshman Tour Guides from a broad range of student groups that helped with Freshman Orientation. The Freshman had a great day and it was positive because of you guys. Thank you!
What does morning and after school pick up look like for new Back Oval?
You must follow the arrows all the way around turning right after the roundabout.
The first few days, we will have a person at two location on this route guiding parents. As you leave, you will see that there are three lanes with only left and right turns to exit: 1. turn turn left towards Ontario; 2. is a right on Garden; 3. is the entry lane for parents coming in to the dropoff/pick up zone. There is no straight lane to 5th street.
Student Entry in the Morning ~ These are the only doors unlocked
The Large Commons between D & E
The new Student Entry to Attendance (the first sidewalk past D-House Alcona Health Center
The Alumni Hall of Fame Door ~ nearest the Wildcat Den
The Doors under the Wildcat (4 total sets of doors)
The Main Office Entrance (Back Oval -- Drop off/Pick up zone)
These entries allow staff to ensure that there is an adult staff member at every entry point to greet students in the morning.
At the end of the day, AHS Staff will be outside to ensure that the buses do not leave before we ensure all students are OK and on a bus.
Counseling
Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! Over the weekend, classes have continued to be balanced to ensure that students are put in the best scenario for learning. If you have an issue with your schedule you should send a class change request via this form: Class Change Form (Changes are only possible the first week of the semester.) If you are waiting for a class change, you must continue to attend the current class until/if the change is approved. If you have an open hour or duplicated hours, during that hour, please come down to E house to resolve the issue. Mr. Buchinger gives more details on changes below.
ACC Classes must be dropped by September 5th to get a full refund
The E House Office break down is: Office Assistant: Mrs. Ayers, Counselors: Mrs. Studley last names = A-E, Ms. Riedlinger = F-L, Mrs. Linton = M-R, and Mrs. Miller = S-Z
You can make an appointment to see us at any time after the first week using this link: Counselor Appointment Form
We hope your first week is awesome! WE are confident you will have a great year. Let us know how we can help!
AHS Upcoming Events
Good Afternoon,
Welcome to APS Online!
Welcome back to another exciting school year! We are thrilled to reconnect with each of you and support your educational goals.
As part of our district's strategic plan, we will focus on aligning our practices to enhance Academics & Programs, Whole Child Development, Personnel, Family and Community Partnerships and Stewardship. We wanted to share with you some important information regarding APS Online and the beginning of the school year.
First we are working on uploading students' classes to Harris Digital Learning and Accelerate Education. We are working diligently to have these opened by Monday, August 25, 2025. We will be sending an email for new student logins between now and next week, and Parent Portal accounts will follow within three weeks, allowing parents to monitor their student’s progress. Harris Digital Learning is currently the only online platform that has a parent account, we encourage parents with students in Accelerate to meet with their students weekly to check their progress.
We are currently uploading many classes. If there are any delays, please don't worry; everything will be organized by the end of next week.
Log in for Harris Digital Learning at esw.harrisdigitallearning.com.

Dress Code ~ Parents, We Need Your Help!
The letter attached was the message that we have used for a few years to help when we start school and in the spring as the weather gets warm again.
Admin found great support in reaching out to parents focusing on personal perspective "as to what they believe to be acceptable dress in school."
As we start the school year out, it is a great opportunity to discuss the letter and dress code with your student. Please take time this weekend to review our letter and determine what you see as "appropriate for school" and what you can do to help support the "dress that is geared toward what students should wear in the workforce."
In no way do we want any student to feel humiliated or uncomfortable; students are also welcome to call home for a change of clothes.
Principals/Dean will be calling home when necessary and hope to find support at home. We look forward to teaming up to make the school dress code a collaborative effort.
APS Free and Reduced Breakfast and Lunch Program Fall 2025
State funding that provided free lunch and breakfast for all students will continue until September 30th. The State has not passed a new budget at this time, so we don’t know if meals will be funded starting October 1st. Nearly 60% of families in the Alpena Public Schools service area can qualify for free and reduced breakfast and lunch at school. Adequate nutrition is absolutely vital to the daily success of our students. It is shown to improve concentration, mood and behavior for students. Although families won’t have to pay for meals at this time, they must still complete qualification forms for their local school. Completed forms allow schools to qualify to receive state funding to pay for the meals as well as funds for:
Instructional specialist staff (ex. Reading Interventionists, Math Tutors, Academic & Behavior Aids)
Teaching supplies and materials
Counselors and Social Workers
School Nurses
Professional Learning for staff
Parent and Community engagement supplies and activities
Technology for students
Please help your child to have their best opportunity to succeed academically and socially this school year. It is very important for families to complete and return the paperwork needed to continue this option for their students. You can complete it online by clicking HERE . Downloadable PDF Any family that needs assistance completing the application can contact their child’s school. If you have questions please contact Food Service Director Rachel James (989) 358-5021 or jamesr@alpenaschools.com.
Secure Campus Enhancements ~ We can't have deliveries, please discuss it with your students
From the Student/Parent Handbook:
Non-school related personal deliveries for students from commercial businesses such as flower shops, fast food, and bakeries are strongly discouraged. All such deliveries are kept at the Main Office and not given to the student until the conclusion of the school day.

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
Student Climate Team will be trained to conduct peer mediation for students who are in conflict with one another. The goal of having peer mediation at AHS is to help create a more positive culture in our school where both sides win and one party doesn't feel as if they are being treated unfairly. Please see Mr. Robarge in Restorative Center (School Success) if you need help resolving an issue. Peer mediators don't take sides or place blame on anyone!
