If you could make the world a better place by changing one thing, what would
it be and why?
For everyone to have respect for others. Respect is something lacking everywhere and we need to spread kindness and respect always.
Local hero or mentor:
My parents, because they have helped me with everything and they’ve always been there for me. They’ve set me up for success.
Best part of living in N.E. Michigan:
The summers! You can do whatever you want in the summer…not so much in the winter.
Counseling Corner: Final exams and the end of the semester are just around the corner! Take time to get plenty of rest and eat good food so that you can do your best on your exams! If you find that you have a low grade in a class, take time to talk to your instructor to find out what you might do to improve. Perhaps there is missing work that can be turned in or extra credit that you can do.
Mid-winter mental health tip: Keep Active! Getting outside for even a short walk or run around the block can do wonders for boosting your endorphin level and keeping your mood positive.

The School Messenger Automated Contact System is used by the district to help keep families informed. Contact your child's school if you need assistance or you aren't receiving messages. It includes customizable options for phone, email or text messaging. If you would like to receive texts from APS instead of calls you will need to manually opt-in by texting Y or the word Yes to the shortcode 67587. You can email fitzpatrickl@alpenaschools.com or ask the secretary at your child's school to turn off calls to you once that is done.
Families can manage their own contact information by removing or adding information using Synergy ParentVue which is available at alpenaschools.com. Families can use the free School Messenger Info center App for IOS or Android to control their own contact preferences or review missed messages. There is also a web portal https://infocenter.schoolmessenger.com/#/home where they can do the same. You must have an email address in your Synergy account to use the mobile apps or web portal. Requests for changes or removal can be made to any school building, to the main switchboard (358-5200), or by using the “Press 5” function and confirming by pressing 1 at the start of any call.

Student Parking Lot
Winter is Here
Be Careful
Please take time to discuss student parking and winter driving at home and review good driving habbits with your student driver.
Extra stopping distances, slippery conditions, taking extra time, etc.!
As snow plowing takes place, Mr. Irwin is getting the parking cones out starting at 5:30 am, so start the rows from the cones to maintain straight rows as students come in to park; and, it is dark.
The overflow parking is closed as it is not needed ~ see the picture below.
Seniors ~ find that land mark for your parking spots and do your best.
If AHS Security or Officer JC comes to your car in the morning about a driving violation, please be respectful. They will take your parking pass to meet with me once the school day starts.
Parking violations may lead to a police citation.
Towing is at the student's expense.
The student entrances and exits are clearly marked and explained to students and must be used. If you look at the pictures below off of Bagley Street and wonder why there are two sets of barricades and now caution tape? Students must use the proper entrances/exits and/or face the consequences ~ I so appreciate the support at home with this matter, please discuss it.
This week we are shining a light on the Teacher Academy program.

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
PEER MEDIATION
AHS now has trained student peer mediators to help solve conflicts between students! If you are in conflict with another student, please see me in Room E110 or you can e-mail me at robargeb@alpenaschools.com Remember, peer mediators are trained not to take sides or place blame on anyone.
