EMPOWERING 21ST CENTURY GRADUATES
Congrats Elijah Allen on your selection!
Confident: Self Aware- Able to identify their own strengths and weaknesses; Growth Mindset- Embrace their ability to grow through dedication and hard work; Grit- Willing to expend sustained effort to complete a task with excellence.
When Mrs. Piper needed a logo to support our marketing campaign for the Michigan College Access Network, Elijah came highly recommended. He listened to what the needs were, accepted feedback, and made requested changes. His work will be displayed in the halls of AHS for years to come. Thank you Elijah for your creative expertise, digital skills, and ability to make changes as needed.

Congratulations to Lori Vought, AHS Counselor on your selection ~ You help so many each year and make a positive impact on your clients' SEL/Mental Health needs. You are passionate about Career Guidance and creating opportunities for all students.
Counseling Corner: The Counseling Department would like to wish you and your family the merriest of Christmases and a wonderfully Happy New Year! Use the break to rest and rejuvenate!
Some of you may want to consider using the holiday break to relieve the stress of having lower or failing grades due to missing work. Even taking just a half hour here and there over break to do some work could help a lot! You will feel better when we return in January if you can come back with some missing work ready to turn in.
For those with online courses: You are not required to do online work over break. However, if you're behind, this could be a great time to catch up, or even to work ahead and finish early if you so choose. You can do it!
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!

Four Alpena High School students recently demonstrated civic engagement by participating in the MIVote Matters Challenge through the State of Michigan. Avery Samp, Jack Grulke, Tucker Bright and Eden Gray visited a few senior level classes to encourage seniors to prepare to vote so that they will be ready to participate in the next election cycle. Alpena High will compete against other high schools in Michigan to see who can register the most seniors. To learn more, you can google MIVoteMattersChallenge. Way to go, Avery, Jack, Tucker and Eden!

Students need to use their lockers and may only use the string bags and/or those meeting the size requirements.
Teachers will be assigning students lunch detentions and continued use will result in progressive discipline.
If you have any concerns regarding the policy, please begin with your assigned principal to discuss it.
Please note the Bake Sale that is being done as a fundraiser following the Concert ~ bring your cash to support the Choir

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
PEER MEDIATION
AHS now has trained student peer mediators to help solve conflicts between students! If you are in conflict with another student, please see me in Room E110 or you can e-mail me at robargeb@alpenaschools.com Remember, peer mediators are trained not to take sides or place blame on anyone.
