EMPOWERING 21ST CENTURY GRADUATES
Congratulations on your selection Cooper Bright...
Contributor: Citizenship- Recognize the importance of their role in our connected world; Involvement- Willing to actively engage to make a positive difference; Community Oriented- Able to balance self-interest with the needs of society.
Cooper Bright - Is a student that others can easily emulate and follow after as he exemplifies the Wildcat Way. Cooper is truly a great young man who is quiet in comparison to many, but yet an excellent role model in the building as a strong student and athlete. He leads by example by striving to be the best and exemplifying outstanding citizenship. He is a standout student that teachers enjoy having in class and naturally adds to the positive culture. He utilizes his athletic talents to lead his teammates on and off the court and eagerly participates in youth camps where younger athletes wish to be in his group. He plans to take all his talents and work towards becoming a teacher in the future as he moves to the next level by playing basketball and studying English and history at Albion College. Cooper, thanks for always thinking of others, being kind to all, and carrying yourself with dignity and pride; you are the Wildcat Way!
NEXT WEEK IS SUPER BUSY SENIORS PAY ATTENTION TO THESE EVENTS & DATES
CTE Excellence Ceremony @ 6pm in the Auditorium
Seniors- It is time to celebrate you!! AHS will be hosting its Decision Day celebrations on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week (May 10th and 11th). Decision Day is a nation-wide event that aims to celebrate high school seniors and the decisions they have made for their postsecondary plans. Tuesday and Wednesday there will be a photo backdrop set up for students to have their pictures taken in front of the auditorium. There will also be many prizes (gift cards, TV, minifridge, and more) that students can enter to win if they attend. Students will be able to drop in throughout the day to celebrate. They are encouraged to wear the gear of the college they will attend or the career they will enter. This is an exciting time and I cannot wait to celebrate with you!

Leadership is in the process of planning a pre-prom assembly for the junior and senior class to bring awareness to the dangers of drinking/drugs and driving under the influence.
So far our plans include:
~ Having a crash scene set up in the front oval of the high school, along with responding EMS personnel and MSP personnel. The EMS personnel will be acting as if it were a real accident. There will be a narrator to explain what is taking place throughout the enactment. (Contacts: Andy Marceau, Officer David)
~ Students will then be led into the auditorium for a brief presentation on the resulting legalities that the individuals would be facing.
~ Chet Spencer, Up North Prevention, will be the next speaker to address students highlighting the effects of drinking and drugs. This will be followed by a brief discussion of the legalities involved in having banned substances at school functions.
~ The last presenter of the assembly is Jackie Krawczak. She is a local motivational speaker whose family has been tragically affected by a drunk driver.
The assembly will be held May 11th, beginning at 9:30 (Advisory) and will last approximately an hour.
Please join all seniors for Baccalaureate, a BLESSING of the graduates, in the AHS Auditorium. We are excited to host this student led event, as it has not taken place in the last two years. Baccalaureate is a REFRESHING opportunity for students and families.
KAPUT is in need of parents for After Prom for desserts and volunteers . The event is being held at the Bowling Alley from 11:00 p.m. - 3:00 a.m. and set-up will be necessary before that time.
Please reach out to the After Prom Chairperson, Lisa Thayer @ 989-255-0139.
Seniors:
You want to ensure that you have the day off from work and need to be at AHS for the Senior Experience Day-- agenda will be announced. Students must attend that day to hear the message, participate in the campus cleanup, class luncheon, surprise assembly, collect honor cords & graduation tickets, clear all fines and last item needs, graduation walk through at Wildcat Stadium/Park Family Field, and celebrate their accomplishments as a class.
It is vital that everyone attend!
Of course-- the infamous Senior Celebration event is later that evening from 6:00 p.m. - 3:00 a.m. sponsored by KAPUT. (Parents, please note that it ends at 3am.)
Robo calls, emails, and social media posts will come out.
This is parent led through the AHS KAPUT Team.

The Rock--- Not the Culture that We Are Building at AHS
Mr. Pattison called to share that last night vandals decimated the Rock in front of the school. What they painted on there is not even appropriate to post as a picture. Students and staff have worked all year to build positive culture, and a few students are willing to tear it down with one act of hatred. I implore you as student community to turn those involved in and let administration and Officer David pull the camera footage to link their names to their vehicles. It would be fitting to hold them responsible for their actions. I called the Senior Planning Team and they set a crew up in less than hour to fix the Rock. Thank you all for being solid citizens; these students that make a difference and are the majority of the student community. The worst of it-- we have three major sporting events at all the fields with multiple schools and a community event this evening in the auditorium, so all the out of town people saw the hatred that these students chose to share. Very sad and not a true representation of our student body! We have great kids, and their actions shine over this act of ugliness.

Counselor Corner
Do you ever wonder how to make your voice count? Counselors at AHS would like to make you aware of Voter Awareness Day in the Month of May! Looking ahead to May 20, students in Mr. Bright's and Mrs. Brownridge's Perspectives in Democracy class will be hosting a "Voter Awareness Day" in the Commons during all lunch hours. Students in this class would like to see all AHS students learn about the power they exercise by voting and getting involved in our democratic process! Look for prizes, games, grab bags, and information on how to vote and get involved in the Commons. See you in the Commons on 5/20 for this important and engaging event!
Congrats to Bryce Jaskolski, Jonathan Fleck, Dillon Thomson, Flora Patterson, Kaden Ludlow, and Jacob Rushing. You were on time and attended every hour during the week of 4/25!
SECURE ENTRY AT AHS
Over the past few weeks, technology and maintenance have worked to install secure entry equipment at AHS in the two areas where parents, students, and community members are expected to enter the building (The Back Oval and Front Oval- see photos below) with secure access. The staff is going to start implementing the new processes as the year ends, so our staff can work out the details and make necessary changes to prepare students for the 22-23 school year; we are excited to implement the project. Because of the size of the building and so many entries, we have work to train all our stakeholders at AHS to not let students or adults into the building at anytime and direct them to the two secure entrances. Like weather and safety drills, we have to practice what we preach to ensure that students and staff follow the necessary protocols to make AHS a safe school.
The two entries have been equipped with new technology. The Back Oval which is accessed off of Garden St. has a buzzer/ID swipe and camera where the Switchboard Secretary will connect with the visitor(s) and buzz the person into the building. At which time, the building entrance expectation is to go directly to the Main Office to register and receive a visitor's pass from The Rapture System; the foyer area will be clearly labeled, so visitors entering can follow the signage and check into the building properly.
The student entrance is to the right of the Wildcat in the front oval and is clearly marked "Student Entrance." Students coming in after all the entry doors are secure after the morning classes begin, will buzz Switchboard and let into the building. We are investigating the option to have a swipe entry for the students that have Early College, Dual Enrollment, APS Online, etc. who will have their Student ID programmed to enter and record their entry--stay tuned on this piece as we determine whether it can be done properly.
Lunch Periods: The students that choose to use the outdoor area will need to use the outdoor lunch area between E and D Houses where that entrance will be supervised during lunch periods by security. We want students to have the opportunity during the warm weather season(s) and this will help keep students out of the front oval where there is car traffic and no real area to congregate and/or eat lunch. I look forward to the warm weather and encourage our students to use the outdoor area when the weather permits. Again, students are expected to only use the entrance off the commons. I plan to share this clearly next week with students during announcements.
As always, I encourage student voice and please share your questions/ideas with Administrators or any staff. We are trying to promote a welcoming culture and need to hear your ideas. We appreciate you all and want the building to be as secure as possible to promote school safety.

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
