This week's Wildcat Way is Hayden Bacchus! Hayden has taken every AP course AHS has to offer, and has done extremely well in each of them. Hayden is a natural problem solver, using logic in almost everything he does. Hayden works hard in and out of school, and is a great example of a Wildcat!
Congratulations Hayden Bacchus on your selection!
Counseling
2025/26 Scheduling Process Continued
The past two weeks, students have had opportunities to hear from Teachers from different departments about course offerings at AHS. Students have been given their scheduling sheets with the expectations that conversations are occurring at home as we get closer to the scheduling deadlines for Fall 2025-206.
For more information please visit the AHS Scheduling webpage. Parents, it is very important to review the Course Selection Guide and discuss with your student. There have been and will be a few more opportunities for students to ask our counselors scheduling questions (see dates below), students with an in-person English class should not be requesting Counselor Appointments for general scheduling questions. Students with only an On-line English class should visit the Counseling Center.
Important Dates:
3/11-12: Counselors will be available in the Commons during all lunches to answer questions.
3/11-3/13: Students should be turning in their completed forms to their English Teacher.
3/14: Deadline for requesting classes in Synergy
Specific Class Directions
Students who select Dual Enrollment on their schedule for next year: You will need to request an appointment for after spring break with your counselor to select the specific class(es).
Students who select Online on their schedule for next year: Circle 'Virtual Learning' on your course request sheet and choose the same in synergy. On your sheet, write what class you are hoping to have online. You will then get information about an online form and due date for those before this year ends.

Welcome Our New CTE Director
Dr. Jessie Gillard returns to Alpena High School (AHS) as an AHS alumna bringing both expertise and an avid learner’s humility to her new role as the Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE) with Alpena Public Schools. Over the past three decades, Dr. Gillard has had the opportunity to serve as a teacher, principal, district school improvement coordinator, non-profit director, and state and federal policy leader. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Michigan, completed graduate studies in early education and social work at Wayne State University, and holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Michigan State University. Jessie is thrilled to be back home in Alpena with her husband Matt and the two of their four kids that are still school aged. “I am incredibly excited to learn from our talented CTE staff and work together to ensure we continue to build on the legacy of strong leadership provided by Joyce McCoy and Ron Worth. Together, we will ensure high-wage, in demand and engaging career pathways continue to be available for the next generation of CTE students”, said Dr. Gillard.

Final Four Baby!
Let’s cheer on the Cats in Plymouth Friday for the first time since 2007. Athletics has secured a fan bus and has committed donors to help offset costs right now and make it affordable for families. The bus will hold 52 students, and it will be first-come-first serve Monday morning. The tickets are on GoFan and student cost is $13. If you want to travel and support the Cats, please go to the Athletic Office, sign up for your seat, pay your $20 dollars when you sign up, and you must have your online ticket to get on the bus Friday. The Blueline Club will have pizza and water for the trip home. Right now we have committed sponsors from all our Credit Unions (AAACU, Alpena Community Credit Union, Wolverine State Credit Union, HPC Credit Union, Northland Area Federal Credit Union) and the Blue Line Club, these leaders stepped up on Sunday with one text from me to support AHS students! Great businesses! Blue Line is working on more donation opportunities as this Weekly Update is sent today.
We just drew the 4th seed, so game time is 11am. The bus will leave AHS @ 6am on Friday ~ promptly, to ensure a stop along the way and time to enter the arena.

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
Student Climate Team will be trained to conduct peer mediation for students who are in conflict with one another. The goal of having peer mediation at AHS is to help create a more positive culture in our school where both sides win and one party doesn't feel as if they are being treated unfairly. Please see Mr. Robarge in E110 (School Success) if you need help resolving an issue. Peer mediators don't take sides or place blame on anyone!
