EMPOWERING 21ST CENTURY GRADUATES
Collaborative: Team Player- Willing to fulfill a variety of roles in group settings; Communicator- Able to effectively share, receive and interpret information; Flexible- Willing to adjust, adapt and compromise to address varying circumstances.
This weeks Wildcat Way is Mrs. Copping! You can find Mrs. Copping at ACES, and she is always just an email away. Mrs. Copping was selected because her peers recognize the hard work Mrs. Copping puts into both ACES and online school. Additionally, there is no task to big or too small for Mrs. Copping. She is a true team player, and always puts her students first. She is yet another great example of a Wildcat!
Congratulations Mrs. Copping on your selection!

Counseling
2025/26 Scheduling Process
This past week we started the scheduling process for the 2025/26 school year with students watching videos in English and US History classes. Students will have multiple opportunities to learn about course offerings and ask our school counselors questions over the next few weeks. For more information please visit the AHS Scheduling webpage. Parents, it is very important to review the Course Selection Guide and discuss with your student. There will be multiple opportunities for students to ask our counselors scheduling questions (see dates below), students should not be requesting Counselor Appointments for general scheduling questions.
Important Dates:
2/25 and 2/27: Counselors will be visiting English classes to answer questions
2/25: Scheduling Informational Meeting - AHS Auditorium - 6:30pm
3/11-12: Counselors will be available in the Commons during all lunches to answer questions
3/14: Deadline for requesting classes in Synergy
Seniors---Remember that this is "Scholarship Season" and that most of our scholarships have a deadline approaching very soon! For example, the Community Foundation of Northeast Michigan has many scholarships available to local students and their deadline is March 1. Go to cfnem.org for more information and to apply.
Do you need help with scholarships or with your FAFSA (Free application for Federal Student Aid)? Melisa Smith is in the Media Center just to your left as you enter from the back (cafeteria lines) entrance to the Wildcat Den. Stop in at her desk to say hello and ask her which scholarships are current (there are a lot of them!). In addition, Mrs. Smith can make an individual appointment with you and your parent to help you complete your FAFSA at a time that works best for you and your parent.
9th-11th Graders - We are in 'scheduling season' and are working hard to get the information you need in order to request the classes you want and need for next year. Please, DO NOT request an appointment with your counselor regarding scheduling until AFTER the scheduling information has been given. Teachers will be giving information and counselors will visit English classrooms to answer questions. Eventually, you will turn in your requests and have input to Synergy at least started. Feel free to request an appointment AFTER that has been done. Thank you!

Exam Experts ~ 1st Session Starts on Monday
--- Check your email for your session 1 or 2; report to D 211 directly and bring your Chromebook and note taking material
You have been assigned a session for Exam Experts on February 24 & 25 and March 3 &4. These lists have been created to assure all Dual Enrolled students and Early College students do not have college course conflicts. All staff is glad to see you are taking the SAT seriously and attending this helpful session. Please make sure to make the necessary arrangements with teachers to be in attendance these 4 days. If you have lunch conflicts we will make sure to arrange a different lunch for you. Good luck!
A good SAT score is one that helps you get admitted to a college that you want to go to. The average SAT score is around 1050. Any score above that would be above average. A score of 1350 would put you in the top 10% of test takers and help make your application competitive at more selective schools.
The higher your SAT score, the better your chances of admission at selective schools will be. Plus, high SAT scores also drive merit-based aid at many schools, so earning an above-average score can also save you lots of money — and spare you from accruing significant college debt. Scholarship opportunities await you from this as well!
We look forward to seeing you there and hearing your feedback!

Practice What We Never Want To Happen
AHS conducted an unannounced lockdown drill on Thursday during lunchtime, achieving an impressive building clearance time of approximately 1 minute and 30 seconds. Chief Hamp, along with our SRO, Officer Collegnon, and two additional police officers, assisted the AHS team in executing the drill.
Following the drill, AHS administration debriefed with students, addressing areas of concern and providing feedback. Overall, the administration felt that students responded successfully to the drill.
Parents please discuss this at home and follow up with any questions. We appreciate the partnernship.
STUDENTS PRINTING TO PRINTERS
Students please be conscious when printing. Do not print pages that are full color, as those pages use a lot of toner. This week two machines were completely depleted of toner, and it takes a couple of days to get toner, resulting in the machines being down until replacement toner arrives.
STUDENT PARKING LOT REMINDER
Students - please be sure you are not blocking other cars when you park. We have had a couple instances of students parking incorrectly which results in other students getting blocked in. Also - DO NOT PARK IN SENIOR SPOTS ~ which results in a $25 fine. Those spots are reserved for the student who paid for and painted their spot.
Want a chance at winning a 44in Flat Screen TV for $3? You can do so by supporting SLS this week, for $1 at each lunch Tuesday-Wednesday, don't worry about monday that's free. The winner will be announced Friday morning!

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
Student Climate Team will be trained to conduct peer mediation for students who are in conflict with one another. The goal of having peer mediation at AHS is to help create a more positive culture in our school where both sides win and one party doesn't feel as if they are being treated unfairly. Please see Mr. Robarge in E110 (School Success) if you need help resolving an issue. Peer mediators don't take sides or place blame on anyone!
