EMPOWERING 21ST CENTURY GRADUATES
Congrats on your selection...
Ms. Lisa Rosenbeck & Mrs. Erin Sharp
Critical Thinker: Analytical- Able to perceive connections and divisions within a problem situation; Logical- Recognize and maintain a sense of coherence in problem solving contexts; Problem Solver- Implement strategies to successfully and efficiently create solutions.
Ms. Rosenbeck and Mrs. Sharp both go above and beyond when supporting students as well as keeping open lines of communication between school and home. They welcome new challenges and both do whatever it takes to ensure success from their students. Thank you for your leadership and willingness to dive right in when a new challenge arises.
Please pay close attention to Social Media/Robo-calls-emails sharing up-to-date information on the project. Please know the project is all weather dependent. Information will be current and daily.
~ We are pleased to have received notice that our paving contractor is available to start work on badly needed resurfacing the front and rear ovals at Alpena High School starting tomorrow, Friday 10/14 and lasting through approximately next week. This will require some adjustments to student pick up and drop off at AHS as well as community use for athletics and Plaza Pool.
All sidewalks will remain open for access during this work.
For student bus pick up and drop off you will see only a slight adjustment. The three buses that parked in the front traffic circle (Front of the building with the big Wildcat logo) will be moved into the bus lane in the same order.
For students dropped off and picked up by car, the rear circle (By the main office at AHS) will remain in use until sometime next week. We will provide more details when the timeline becomes clearer. They are going to break up the pavement in the rear circle but cars may still drive slowly on the gravel there until further notice. Please proceed with caution in the rear circle once the pavement has been removed.
Back Oval Project will begin Wednesday ~ ish depending upon the weather conditions. The goal is to pave that section on Wednesday after the morning drop off traffic. Please be patient as there may be quick developments. You should make plans with your student to be picked up at a Garden Street location while this project unfolds. It will only be one day pending any complications.
Thanks for your patients and understanding.
We will follow our normal schedule, see the attached for your presentation time.
Dual Enrolled/Early College students should plan their day accordingly and if necessary, due to your college class(es), attend the opposite session. Please email Mr. Bourdage if this is the case. You need to attend one of the sessions ~ you want AHS to be a great place to attend and this event will do that for us.
Unity Day ~ Leadership will be doing special activities to incorporate the Unity Theme into our Rachel's Challenge day.
Encourage all students to wear ORANGE for Unity Day
Please join us October 19th, at 6:00pm for this community event.
Peer Mediation: What Is It and How Can It Help You?
Peer mediation is a confidential process for resolving conflicts. It's an opportunity for students to talk through their disputes with the help of trained student mediators. It helps students who are in conflict communicate their concerns and better understand one another. The goal of peer mediation is to create an outcome where everybody wins and one party doesn't feel as if they get unfairly treated or penalized. In addition, peer mediation reduces tension among staff and students, and it helps to improve the overall school climate through better student and staff relationships.
Please see Mr. Robarge in E110 (School Success), if you need help resolving an issue. Peer mediators don't take sides or place blame on anyone.

October is College Month. While this is typically viewed as a chance for high school seniors to take advantage of getting a head start on applying to college and touring college campuses it is also a chance for 9th, 10th, and 11th graders to start thinking of their post-graduation plans, a time that will be here before you know it. Now is a good time as any to begin laying the foundation for your future. Have you thought about what after high school might look like? If not, it's OKAY! You are not alone, many of your fellow classmates are in the same position. Let's change that and start planning for your future TODAY.
Now you may be thinking, college isn't for me. Guess what? That's okay. Maybe a trade program (like welding, automotive, cosmetology) or the military is more appealing to you. That's great! Everyone has a different vision, a different career pathway, for their future. It isn't a one way street. The one thing that ALL students should have in common is a PLAN. That's where I come in, let me help you discover your future pathway. Schedule a time with me to chat by emailing attwella@alpenaschools.com. The first 5 students (9-11th graders) that do will receive a prize from me!
Do something today that your future self will thank you for.
Dreams aren't going to chase themselves.

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
