Joey was caught by Ms. Manning doing a good deed. While entering the building from a class activity, students were allowing the door to slam shut. Joey waited, held the door, and made sure classmates and staff were in the building before entering. He is often found helping out in his role in the Leadership class by planning activities for others. He is kind and greets staff. Thank you for sharing your amazing values and leadership in our building!
Congratulations on your selection this week

Everything is due by May 1 if you would like to be recognized in our upcoming Virtual Senior Awards Night that will be released on YouTube on May 19.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this important matter!
Virtual learning classes deadline. If you have requested online classes for next year by putting in "Virtual Learning" placeholders you MUST meet with your counselor to select your specific online classes before May 12. Failure to select your online class(es) by May 12 will result in you being placed in an alternate face-to-face class.
Students have until May 12th to let their counselors know what APS Online classes they are wanting for the fall. After May 12th, online course requests or classes will not be accepted and requests will be dropped. Students are encouraged to schedule an appointment with their counselor if they'd like guidance on the process OR they are welcome to preview the list of APS Online Courses. Online forms can be picked up in the E-House Office.
What is a healthy relationship?
In dating relationships, there are some specific warning signs that the relationship is not a healthy one.
If you answer YES to any of these questions, it is NOT a good relationship:
-Does your partner try to control you or order you around? Does your partner try to tell you how you can dress or how you can wear your hair? Does your partner try to tell you what you can and cannot eat? Does your partner try to tell you where you can go? Do they try to tell you who you can talk to or who you can be friends with? Do they try to seclude you? Is there jealousy? Does your partner put you down or make you feel bad about yourself? Do you feel pressure to do or not do things, including sex? Does your partner get angry at you for little things? Does your partner try to control how you can spend your own money? Does your partner use humor as a means to insult you? Does your partner avoid being with you in public? Does your partner ignore you when they are around their friends? Has your partner ever physically or emotionally hurt you? Has your partner cheated on you? Does your partner go out to do things with friends, but wants you to stay home? Is your partner constantly checking on you?
If you answer NO to any of these questions, it is a good idea to end the relationship, it is NOT a healthy one:
-Do you feel safe when you are together? Do you feel comfortable saying NO to your partner about anything? Do you trust your partner with treasured secrets and thoughts? Do they make you feel like you are a better person with them? Do they always seem to try to control your every move?
These questions can apply to friendships as well as romantic relationships. If these questions relate to your relationships, you should consider ending the relationship or at least talking to someone to gain perspective. Feel free to make an appointment with your counselor if you need or want help processing this topic and these questions.

Dress Code ~ Parents, We Need Your Help!
The letter attached was the message that we used last spring to help, as dress code was an issue as the weather warmed up.
Admin found great support in reaching out to parents focusing on personal perspective "as to what they believe to be acceptable dress in school."
As the weather warmed fast this past week, it is a great opportunity to discuss the letter and dress code with your student. Please take time this weekend to review our letter and determine what you see as "appropriate for school" and what you can do to help support the "dress that is geared toward what students should wear in the workforce."
We do have clothing that students can access in the AHS Clothing Closet located in E House; students are sent there when necessary. In no way do we want any student to feel humiliated or uncomfortable; students are also welcome to call home for a change of clothes.
Principals/Dean will be calling home when necessary and hope to find support at home. We look forward to teaming up to make school dress code a collaborative effort.

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
PEER MEDIATION
AHS now has trained student peer mediators to help solve conflicts between students! If you are in conflict with another student, please see me in Room E110 or you can e-mail me at robargeb@alpenaschools.com Remember, peer mediators are trained not to take sides or place blame on anyone.
