EMPOWERING 21ST CENTURY GRADUATES
Congratulations on your selection Christi Schultz...
Culturally Minded: Globally Aware- Sensitive to the variety of cultural expressions; Compassionate- Able to empathize with the feelings and priorities of others; Embrace Diversity- Willing to welcome and respect all differences. Mrs. Schultz worked with Ben Henry and the Varsity Hockey Team to make a moment of a lifetime happen. Mrs. Schultz knew what a sports fan Jack Hood was and how he loves Wildcat Hockey. She helped arrange for Jack to meet during advisory to be awarded his own AHS Jersey, signed hockey stick, and a basket full of AHS swag. She also helped make a moment of a lifetime for Jack. Thank you Mrs. Schultz and the AHS Hockey Team.

Time is ticking away ~ Make sure that you are talking to your teachers and getting prepared as the semester is well over the halfway point
All teachers will give a comprehensive exam/evaluation at the end of each semester covering the curricular content of each course they teach.
Exams/evaluations will be given on the designated exam dates.
It is understood that other end-of-course tasks may need to be completed during this time period in addition to the exam/evaluation (i.e. collecting books, locks and other school-issued supplies).
Final exam/evaluation time is not to be used for non-instructional activities.
The weight of the exam/evaluation grade must be included in each teacher’s syllabus/SBS. The exam grade will be specifically indicated on student report cards.
Parents ~ it is a good time to review ParentVue and communicate with teachers with questions or concerns. We appreciate parent communication and encourage it.
Counseling Corner: Be sure to attend our upcoming Parent Information Forums on the following topics:
For student athletes hoping to play competitive college sports:
NCAA Parent Information Forum, Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the Commons. This session will answer questions about playing at a division 1 or 2 college and how to register with NCAA.
Are you a student athlete? Are you planning / hoping to compete at the college level? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you and your parent/guardian should attend the Parent Information Forum on Wednesday December 7 at 6:30 P.M. in Alpena High School Commons. AHS Counselor Mary Daoust will be hosting the meeting regarding NCAA Eligibility Center registration. She will explain the process, eligibility requirements and answer your questions. NCAA registration is required for a student to participate in a Division 1 or 2 sport at the collegiate level. This is an informational meeting not a meeting to assist with the registration itself. This event is open to all area schools.
For seniors or fifth year seniors:
"Choosing and Paying for College", Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the High School Commons.

Congrats to Ethan Gilbertson, Jon Fleck and Tristin Edwards. They completed Xello activities to help them discover which careers would match their interests and personality traits. All students who completed the tasks were entered into a drawing. Enjoy your portable speaker, charging block, and portable hammock!
If you’re interested in getting involved, leaving your mark on campus, and practicing beneficial life-long skills, you’re in luck! Leadership is a full-year class dedicated to planning and putting on school events while growing as a leader. If you’ve ever wondered what it’d be like to run an assembly, host a parade, create Spirit Weeks, or decorate for Prom, grab an application in the Main Office! If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Thatcher or any Leadership student for more information.
Leadership Fundraiser December 21st
In preparation for a long and fun-filled Winter Break, Leadership is putting on two different movies for all eligible students! On the 21st, you have the option of seeing a movie during 1st-2nd hours, 6th-7th hours, or (if you're all set with your classes) both!
Your advisory teachers will be receiving waivers later this month for you; to go to these movies, you'll have to get this waiver signed by those teachers whose classes you'll be missing. Once your waiver is set, buy your tickets at the Leadership room the week leading up to break. Those on academic probation (3 or more failing grades and/or those with more than 8 unexcused absences) will not be allowed to attend.
More details will be added once we head into December! Keep checking the weekly or the cafeteria for more information. If you have any questions, please let Mr. Thatcher know at thatcherc@alpenaschools.com!

Tutoring sessions will be held in the Large Commons (Media Center is under construction) from 2:45 to 3:45pm every Monday and Wednesday that students have a full-day. Specific information for each week will be posted in student announcements. Students do not need to sign up in advance and students are responsible for their own transportation. PEER MEDIATION
AHS now has trained student peer mediators to help solve conflicts between students! If you are in conflict with another student, please see me in Room E110 or you can e-mail me at robargeb@alpenaschools.com Remember, peer mediators are trained not to take sides or place blame on anyone.
OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
