We appreciate his drive to make our campus the best ever and the hard work he puts in to make it happen. He is doing an amazing job and moving in late in the year was a big change but he as done a remarkable job. Thank you Dennis for all you do and how you work with students having a smile and kind words everyday-- you are appreciated.
It is vital that ALL seniors be present this day. You need to get the day off from work and experience the day. It is the last official day as a student and one that is packed with important pieces. I look forward to all of you being present for the full day; the presentation, panel discussion, class picture, walkthrough are all necessary for Sunday to be a success.
Also, we have the infamous KAPUT Senior Celebration that will take place starting at 6pm through 3am. It is shaping up to be legendary and outstanding. The parents have worked hard to set up a great evening for all seniors. What a time to celebrate and spend a great evening with your friends and classmates.
Senior Celebration - Donations and Chaperones Needed!
Parents - we need donations and chaperones for the KAPUT Senior Celebration (formerly Senior Lock-In) at AHS on June 3rd from 6:00 p.m. - 3:00 a.m. If you are interested in donating or chaperoning, please contact Vickie Ritter at 989-657-5488 or Jeana Bellanger at 989-884-3532.
We're so excited to have this event back for our seniors! Together, we'll make it a fun and memorable one!
As we come together as a community, the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District remains in our thoughts as they continue to grieve and heal.
Zero Tolerance on Threats
Following the recent tragedy in Texas we have already seen threats investigated in nearby districts. We are pleading with our families to speak to your children about the seriousness of making threats. The lives of several students in our district and their families were impacted forever following threats made in the first semester after the disastrous event in Oxford.
We must do everything in our power to make sure that our children understand the serious nature of making threats of violence. The impact of real or “joke” threats is real and far reaching for so many people. For any individual who makes a threat, the consequences will be swift and severe, potentially resulting in imprisonment.
Also, we are proud of and thankful for those brave individuals who brought these threats to our attention. People speaking up when they hear something concerning is our best tool in keeping our students and staff safe. Each one of these horrible events included opportunities to intervene with the assailant before the event. Please encourage your child to reach out to a trusted adult if they hear or see something concerning or report it to ok2say at https://ok2say.state.mi.us/
Thank you,

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
Counselor Corner: Any missing assignments, projects and online classes need to be wrapped up this week. You should know which of your classes are having final exams and when those are. If you are unsure, ask your teachers. As the year wraps up and you are able to see final grades in your classes, consider our Summer Rebound Program to receive credit in any core classes you may have failed. If you are unsure of what to take, reach out to your counselor. Summer Rebound Registration
Online Class Application Forms Due Wednesday June 1st
If you have requested to take one or more online classes for next semester please submit the Online Class Student Application form to your counselor by June 1st. If you do not turn in your application form by then, your "Virtual Course" request in Synergy will be converted to an AHS in-person course. This deadline is necessary so counselors and our online coordinator have enough time to review applications and purchase classes for next semester. Also, there will be no changes to requested Online courses after this time. If you have any questions regarding this or need an application please contact your counselor.
Our yearbooks are on the way! We have a tentative delivery date of June 21st, similar to last year. We will be handling distribution the exact same way: drive by the back oval, pick up your orders, and see all the amazing things AHS has accomplished this year! There will not be as many unclaimed yearbooks this year, so be sure to get your orders in ASAP! If you have any questions, please let Connor Thatcher know at thatcherc@alpenaschools.com.
Need to catch up on a class or two? Summer Rebound is your ticket.

End of School Year Announced
The official end date for the 2021/2022 school year at Alpena Public Schools is Thursday June 9th. Both Wednesday, June 8th and Thursday June 9th are half-days for students. Dismissal times are as follows; Thunder Bay 10:26, Alpena High and ACES 10:36, City Elementary Schools 11:45 and Country Elementary School 12:06.
We are often asked about why the number of half-days have increased in recent years. The state now requires both a specific number of instructional days and instructional hours. They also require a set number of days of professional development for teachers. Half-days allow for days to count toward each requirement and avoid having schools decrease vacation time for our families particularly for summer break.
The official first day of school at Alpena Public Schools for the 2022/2023 school year will be Monday, August 29th.
