Culturally Minded: Globally Aware- Sensitive to the variety of cultural expressions; Compassionate- Able to empathize with the feelings and priorities of others; Embrace Diversity- Willing to welcome and respect all differences

I would like to introduce you to the AHS Climate Team.  This group of students has organized to produce a positive culture at AHS. Since coming together midyear, this group of AHS students have worked to reach out to elementary schools spreading the message that being KIND is important.  Recently, they have started the planning for next year and how they can continue to  help build a welcoming culture at AHS and across the district.  They will continue to be at the forefront of helping to share the student voice at AHS.

Staff Wildcat Way

AHS Instructional Coaches: Mr. Caplis, Mrs. Poli, and Mrs. Jarema

Contributor: Citizenship- Recognize the importance of their role in our connected world; Involvement- Willing to actively engage to make a positive difference; Community Oriented- Able to balance self-interest with the needs of society.

Congratulations to our AHS Instructional coaches, Mrs. Poli (science), Mrs. Jarema (math), and Mr. Caplis (English, history, PBL) who have worked all school year to support our teachers and share best practices. They have great attitudes both in their own classrooms and while assisting teachers in other classrooms. They jump at the chance to try new ideas and effectively share them with staff members.  They have made a huge impact in their first year as secondary Instructional Coaches; I can't wait to see how they continue to build a program that will impact teachers positively in their teaching practices.

Counselor Corner:  Some end of the year reminders:

Online Class Application Forms Due Wednesday June 1st

If you have requested to take one or more online classes for next semester please submit the Online Class Student Application form to your counselor by June 1st.  If you do not turn in your application form by then, your "Virtual Course" request in Synergy will be converted to an AHS in-person course.  This deadline is necessary so counselors and our online coordinator have enough time to review applications and purchase classes for next semester.  Also, there will be no changes to requested Online courses after this time.  If you have any questions regarding this or need an application please contact your counselor.

ahs final exam schedule

Students will have some type of "Final" in all classes; it may be a culminating project, traditional exam, etc.  Your students will be able to tell you as teachers review end of year pieces regularly in all their classes.  Please use this link to access the Semester 2 Final Exam Schedule.

END OF YEAR -- Chromebooks

If you elect to have your device stored at AHS, you need to see Mrs. Samp in the Media Center (until June 9). The deadline to have your device stored at AHS is the end of the day on June 9th with all the proper paperwork completed.

Seniors, you will be keeping your chromebooks and the necessary technology updates will be configured for post high school use.

Our hope is that current AHS students will keep their chromebook and come to 2022-2023 prepared and charged!

Can You Assist with Track and Field Wednesday?

Hello Wildcat fans, families, and supporters! Our AHS Track and Field teams will compete in the BNC Championship Meet to be held at home at the TBJH track next Wednesday, May 25th. We are seeking volunteers to make it a successful event!

Assistance is needed with all elements of meet operation including field events (high jump, long jump, pole vault, shot put, and discus), clerking/timing at the start/finish lines, a concession stand, and more. If you are a parent or fan looking to have the best seat in the house to watch your athlete compete, this may be the place for you! This is a wonderful opportunity for students to earn volunteer hours they may need too.

Without your help, opportunities like these for our athletes would not be possible! The meet begins with Pole Vault at 1:00PM. All other field events will start at 2:00PM, and running events will start at 3:00PM. If you are interested in volunteering with Pole Vault specifically, we'd appreciate you being there between 12:15-12:30 if possible. For all other Field Events, your report time would be between 1:15-1:30. If you are hoping to clerk or assist with running events, arriving before 2:30 would be a must. I am planning to ask all previous meet volunteers their interest first, and will then assign any new volunteers to positions shortly thereafter. Please reach out promptly if you are interested! I will plan to share an updated list of volunteers periodically on our Alpena Wildcat Track and Field Facebook page as we get closer to the event. We want to ensure all roles are filled!

If you'd like to volunteer or have any questions, please contact Coach Trevor Roznowski at 989-464-9714 or roznowskit@alpenaschools.com. Thank you in advance for your support of Wildcat Track and Field, and Go Wildcats!

After School Tutoring!

We are continuing to offer tutoring assistance after school for all AHS students!  This will be staffed by AHS teachers and assistance can be provided in any subject.  Tutoring sessions will be held in the Media Center from 2:45 to 3:45pm every Monday and Thursday that students have a full-day.  Specific information for each week will be posted in student announcements.  Students do not need to sign up in advance and students are responsible for their own transportation.  Please contact Mr. Pattison @  (pattisonj@alpenaschools.com) if you have any questions.

HOW TO REPORT THREATS/CONCERNS

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
