EMPOWERING 21ST CENTURY GRADUATES
AHS Staff Selections-- Congratulations on Being Chosen Staff
December: Mrs. Jennie Spomer
January: Mrs. Pilarski, Mrs. Smith & Mrs. Timmreck
Critical Thinker-- Jennie Spomer consistently is an asset in medical situations at AHS and again was in the right spot at the right time to aid a student with a medical emergency. She is a Registered Nurse teaching our Health Care Occupations course and is always readily available to render any services necessary for our staff/students medically. In this instance, it was a critical situation, and she was present ensuring the student was safe until medical personnel arrived. Thank you, Mrs. Spomer, for always being present to render assistance.
Collaborative-- AHS students cannot ask for three better student advocates than Mrs. Pilarski, Mrs. Timmreck, and Mrs. Smith. The three work in separate instances ensuring that AHS students have an opportunity to exceed beyond the classroom and selflessly give their time, expertise, and energy to take students in all three of their areas to the next level. Whether it be an FFA Convention, competition across the state, or a professional conference presentation, AHS students are gaining expertise and placed in learning endeavors that will create successful opportunities beyond the classroom. Thank you for all you do to make AHS a better place from all that have the opportunity to work with you.
Make sure to follow your SEMESTER 2 SCHEDULE on Synergy.
If you have an open hour, report to the Counseling Center that hour.
If you have an error in the schedule, report to the Counseling Center that hour.
All other schedule changes, students must use the Class Change Form located on the AHS Web Page under the Counseling Corner. Remember, staff has repeatedly announced schedule help for weeks, allowing all students ample opportunity to address concerns.
Course change requests will not be accepted after this Thursday (1/27)
Counselor Corner: Are you unhappy with your first semester grades? Remember, second semester is a fresh start and a clean slate! You can always do better this semester by planning ahead for success! Do not wait until you fall behind to seek help. Make a plan to stay after school with your teacher, or plan to attend tutoring on Monday or Thursday after school in the Media Center. Also, don't fall behind in your assignments and make sure you regularly turn in your work. Staying caught up is easier than getting caught up!
Beginning this week, everyone who is in every class every hour, on time, gets entered into a weekly drawing.
Good luck!
From the Restorative Center...
Were you unhappy with how your first semester grades turned out? Could you use more accountability during the second semester? Email Ms. Florip at florips@alpenaschools.com to schedule regular grade check-ins and accountability.
WERE YOU OUT ILL DURING FINALS?
If a student is in quarantine or out for an excused absence during exams, they will receive an “I” until they return and it is their responsibility to find a time with that teacher to make up the exam within one week of returning. Otherwise, the exam grade will become a “0”.
Every day since Nov. 30, schools have asked us what they can do to help the Oxford community. Schools in the OAA, KLAA and CHSL have designated February as Oxford Strong month, with Friday, Feb. 4, slated as a day for as many schools as possible to be involved in supporting Oxford. The MHSAA and MIAAA are lending its support to help make this a statewide initiative for all member schools.
Official MHSAA merchandise vendor, E.A. Graphics, will be printing T-shirts and sweatshirts supporting “Oxford Strong” – with schools able to purchase those items and then provide them in their communities. E.A. Graphics will be donating the price of the apparel, after costs, directly to Oxford High School Athletic Department. T-shirts, for example, cost $20, with $16.20 donated from each sale.
Schools taking part may ask their spectators to wear the apparel as part of an “Oxford Strong” sporting event at their schools during February. Although organizers have designated Feb. 4 as a day for as many schools as possible to be “Oxford Strong,” it is expected many schools will sponsor “Oxford Strong” events throughout the month.
Alpena High School will be participating in this event. Students can purchase a t-shirt by filling out this google form below. Please bring the money to F-House ASAP.
Parents and Community Members can purchase a t-shirt at this link using "Individual Order" Button. https://supportoxfordstrong.com
If you have any questions see Mr. Studley. Deadline to purchase is Tuesday January 24 , 2021

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
