EMPOWERING 21ST CENTURY GRADUATES
School-Wide Shout-Out! Thank you!!
This week we had a military recruiter visit the high school for the first time and she made a point to pass on to us how impressed she was by the conduct of our students during all lunch hours! She was incredibly impressed by how well behaved and respectful our students were. She visits many schools in her role as a military recruiter and she wanted us to know that she has yet to be in a school this year where the students conducted themselves and treated each other so well. We know that we have great students, but it is wonderful when people outside of our community get to see this as well! So thank you to all of our students for showing what the Wildcat Way is all about!
Sasha Rouleau ~ Congrats on your selection
Contributor: Involvement- Willingness to actively engage to make a positive difference.
Sasha was selected by Officer David as he sees how much positivity she radiates in the halls of AHS. Sasha always has a smile on her face and is a joy to talk to. She is a friendly face that regularly says hello to all staff members and makes sure to greet everyone. It is evident that she is a caring person as she looks out for her brother and other students. Sasha often makes suggestions on how to improve the school for all students and staff. It is difficult to see Sasha and not walk away smiling. Overall, you make the halls of AHS a better place. Thanks for being you, Sasha, and congratulations on being selected!

Counseling Corner: What is a healthy relationship?
In dating relationships, there are some specific warning signs that the relationship is not a healthy one.
If you answer YES to any of these questions, it is NOT a good relationship:
-Does your partner try to control you or order you around? Does your partner try to tell you how you can dress or how you can wear your hair? Does your partner try to tell you what you can and cannot eat? Does your partner try to tell you where you can go? Do they try to tell you who you can talk to or who you can be friends with? Do they try to seclude you? Is there jealousy? Does your partner put you down or make you feel bad about yourself? Do you feel pressure to do or not do things, including sex? Does your partner get angry at you for little things? Does your partner try to control how you can spend your own money? Does your partner use humor as a means to insult you? Does your partner avoid being with you in public? Does your partner ignore you when they are around their friends? Has your partner ever physically or emotionally hurt you? Has your partner cheated on you? Does your partner go out to do things with friends, but wants you to stay home? Is your partner constantly checking on you?
If you answer NO to any of these questions, it is a good idea to end the relationship, it is NOT a healthy one:
-Do you feel safe when you are together? Do you feel comfortable saying NO to your partner about anything? Do you trust your partner with treasured secrets and thoughts? Do they make you feel like you are a better person with them? Do they always seem to try to control your every move?
These questions can apply to friendships as well as romantic relationships. If these questions relate to your relationships, you should consider ending the relationship or at least talking to someone to gain perspective. Feel free to make an appointment with your counselor if you need or want help processing this topic and these questions.
There will be no after-school tutoring this Monday (4/25). We will resume after school tutoring on Thursday (4/28). We are pleased to see more students taking advantage of this opportunity!
Track & Field Needs Helpers this Wednesday
Good morning Wildcat fans, families, and supporters! Our AHS Track and Field teams will compete in their first home meet this Wednesday, April 27th, and we are seeking volunteers to make it a successful event!
Assistance is needed with all elements of meet operation including field events (high jump, long jump, pole vault, shot put, and discus), clerking/timing at the start/finish lines, and potentially a concession stand. If you are a parent or fan looking to have the best seat in the house to watch your athlete compete, this may be the place for you! This is a wonderful opportunity for students to earn volunteer hours they may need too.
Without your help, opportunities like these for our athletes would not be possible! If you are interested in volunteering, please be at the TBJH track by 3:15PM and coaches will assign you to areas of need. The meet will begin at 4:00PM. If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions, please contact Coach Trevor Roznowski at 989-464-9714 or roznowskit@alpenaschools.com. Thank you in advance for your support of Wildcat Track and Field, and Go Wildcats!

AHS Robotics Update
We Congratulate AHS First Robotics Team 5505 on a Great Run in Texas-- Making All of Alpena Proud
In the qualifying matches throughout the week, they placed 28 out of 75 teams in their division.
They had a super busy week prepping and competing. They had to trouble shoot and work to make equipment adjustments. While working to connect with other Robotic Teams, they were able to interact with international teams making friends across the world- what an experience and memories that were made.
The weekend ended on Saturday for AHS First Robotics Team 5505 when the team did not get selected for the Alliance picks. They put Alpena on the map and were able to make memories that will last a lifetime. They are traveling home today as you read this update-- what a whirlwind for them all!
A huge shout out to the numerous people that stepped up to support the travels through donations and contributions to help offset this journey. From Saturday on Easter Weekend to their departure three days after qualifying, the funds were raised to help make this dream come true-- Alpena is a great community and 5505 is proof of it!

It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
