EMPOWERING 21ST CENTURY GRADUATES
Congratulations on your selection...
Brydi Haugerud as the AHS Staff selection for October...
Creative: Appreciative - Value and celebrate creativity in all forms; Innovative- Connect existing and original ideas and methods to novel conditions; Resourceful - Able to identify and apply all available tools to tackle challenges.
On a daily basis, Mrs. Haugerud begins her day reviewing AHS daily staffing needs and begins the vital process of filling the staffing positions for the day as substitutes are not available. The process often starts early into the morning as most staff are preparing for their workday. She does her job with a smile and no one sees the stress as she is the utmost professional and wizard at piecing staffing together daily. When reaching out to staff before students to cover classes, she immediately thanks those that offer to help; she says, "Anyone can do it." Not True! She is utterly amazing and this task and all others. Additionally, she has to manage my world as the head Principal ~ which is a task in itself. As we celebrate her selection as the Wildcat Way, we also wish her A Belated Happy Birthday last week on Thursday ~ Happy Birthday Brydi ~ you are the brightness in everyone's day!
Parent ~ Teacher Conferences Thursday & Friday
Conferences are a great opportunity to connect with your student(s) teachers and it would be outstanding to see 100% parent involvement.
Conferences will be held in Gym 1 & 2. Please plan to enter by the GYM Entrance and the entries under the Wildcat
Thursday 3pm ~ 6pm & Friday 7:30am ~ 10:30am
We have a Kiosk in the hallway outside gym 2 for parents to complete an AHS/ACES Parent Survey; you may also complete it in advance and available to complete until November 4th
We also encourage you to review Academic Support Strategies for Parents document which offers great strategies to assist your student(s)
Counseling Corner:
Juniors and Seniors, Alpena Community College will soon be beginning the scheduling process for second semester, which begins in January. Set an appointment at the end of Oct./early Nov. to see your counselor and work on your plan for dual enrolling during the second semester.
Students who are failing one or more classes: You may be given a pass in the near future to speak with your counselor about your school performance and how you might improve. Possible topics could be: tutoring, other issues affecting school, credit counts, strategies for success, etc. If you would like an appointment to discuss any of these topics, just email your counselor and we will fit you in soon!
If your student is in this situation, attending Parent ~ Teacher Conferences may be a great opportunity to get assistance.
WE HAVE TRAINED PEER MEDIATORS!
Last week 10 students from the Student Climate Team were trained to conduct peer mediation for students who are in conflict with one another. One of our peer mediators already had a session with two students this week, and she did a great job! The goal of having peer mediators is to create an atmosphere in our school where both sides win and one party doesn't feel as if they get unfairly treated or penalized.
Please see Mr. Robarge in E110 (School Success) if you need help resolving an issue. Peer mediators don't take sides or place blame on anyone.
Rachel's Challenge ~ Unity Day
I want to thank all that helped to make Wednesday and success! It was a great day to remember that being kind & compassionate is necessary for AHS to build a positive CULTURE and continue to thrive. Let's get the CHAIN REACTION going each week and look forward to activities that will continue to contribute to the Challenge.

We are excited to announce that the AAACU Student Union project is STARTING on Monday. APS is super excited to partner with Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union to bring a new learning space to our students at AHS. The project has been in the works and it took some time; but in about a month the students at AHS will have an up-to-date Student Union including the reformed Media Center and home of the Alpena High School Wildcat Branch for AAACU. It is an exciting day ~ I can't wait for the ribbon cutting.
Please be patient as the space will be closed through the construction period.

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
