EMPOWERING 21ST CENTURY GRADUATES
Congrats on your selection... Izzy Szymanski!
Collaborative: Team Player- Willing to fulfill a variety of roles in group settings; Communicator- Able to effectively share, receive and interpret information; Flexible- Willing to adjust, adapt and compromise to address varying circumstances.
Izzy took on a leadership role with the student climate team. They wanted to spread kindness to 6th and 7th grade students at TBJH. She faced a lot of challenges and hurdles but still made it work. She went above and beyond and we had two amazing days with our TBJH crew. Thank you Izzy for all you do to make AHS amazing.
Congratulations to two of our newest APS Employee, Ms. Poli ~ who accepted the AHS PBL Social Studies for next year as Mr. Mitchell moves to another Social Studies position. Along with her, Mr. Kielisszewski will be moving from his Special Education Social Studies position to General Education Social Studies. Mrs. Piper, our Dean of Students, will be moving to Central Office where she takes the role of the K-5 Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment/Federal and State Programs. We are exicted to celebrate all three fantastic employees. We are happy to keep our pair of AHS 2018 Graduates and losing Mrs. Piper is a loss to AHS, but we celebrate her promotion.

Alpena Public Schools (APS) is partnering with a diverse group of organizations to provide community presentations on an array of important mental health topics during May is Mental Health Month. APS presented a panel discussion last May featuring many of the same organizations. Following that successful event, feedback from many of the presenters suggested that a chance to go more in depth would be helpful going forward. This year there will be 7 different evening presentations by 8 different organizations. All presenters are offering their services at no cost for the benefit of our community and there is no charge for admission. All events are at 6 P.M. in the Alpena High School Auditorium.

The end of the year is approaching and the Alpena Bands are looking forward to sharing the fruits of their hard work with you at their Spring Showcase Concert (formerly called "Picnic Pops") on May 18 at 2pm at the AHS gymnasium. Like last year, this is a celebration of the bands at all levels from 6th-12th grade. This is a great opportunity for the younger students to see the older ones and be inspired and for parents and friends to be able to see the full spectrum of musical progression that we span. We will also give out some end-of-year awards to celebrate another successful year of making music together.
Thank you to the Sunset Project Team ~ We are so proud of our former grads at what they have created in the memory of Sawyer Boyd
YAC Day is a time to celebrate the philanthropy done by our students here at AHS. Are you interested in donating to the endowment fund for our local YAC? This allows our students to reach more charities that benefit local youth. If interested, visit the Community Foundation of Northeast Michigan's webpage.
