COUNSELING CORNER:
Seniors: Have you filled out the FAFSA yet? If you haven't, you should get that done very soon. Are you aware that the State of Michigan is awarding the Michigan Achievement Scholarship of up to $5,000 to qualifying students for simply filling out the FAFSA? See the information below!
All Students: Spring break is almost here! Take a good look at your grades and progress this week. Are you behind? Do you have grades lower than you would like? Are you on track with any online classes you may have? If you are needing/wanting to improve your grades Spring Break is the perfect time to do that. Check with your teachers this week to see what you can do over break to get back on track. Even if a student spends only an hour a day over break working on school work it will help get their grades up and back on track.
TESTING CORNER:
PSAT/SAT Prep: College Board and Khan Academy
This week students will be using time during Advisory to access their College Board accounts - all students that have taken the PSAT/SAT have a College Board account.
Their College Board account provides access to score reports, test prep resources and college/scholarship information
We encourage you to take time to review this resource with your student(s) at home - this presentation can help students with logging into their account.
Students can also link their College Board account to their Khan Academy account for personalized test prep and practice tests - check out the video below for more information!
Parents ~ this is a perfect time to follow up the information above with this great opportunity put together by our English and Math Teachers to help our students have a step up on test prep for April 12th.
You can register with the QR Code on the flyer and/or add to the Survey your day(s) you plan to attend. There are only 32 registered currently ~ is your student one of them? It's a great time to discuss it today at home.
On Thursday, all Social Studies and Science teachers 9-11 did a mini-test prep during the shortened day. Talk about this at home and ask what more can you do as a team to help prepare for April 12th testing day to get the most out of your experience. Should you register for the PSAT/SAT Practice? Talk to your teachers and ask questions about what you did on Thursday. They will build off the lesson up until April 12th so the practice is not a one-and-done event in class.

After School Tutoring!
We are continuing to offer tutoring assistance after school for all AHS students! This will be staffed by AHS teachers and assistance can be provided in any subject. Tutoring sessions will be held in the Wildcat Den (former Media Center) from 2:45 to 3:45pm every Monday and Wednesday that students have a full-day. Specific information for each week will be posted in student announcements. Students do not need to sign up in advance and students are responsible for their own transportation. Please contact Mr. Pattison @ (pattisonj@alpenaschools.com) if you have any questions.
OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
PEER MEDIATION
AHS now has trained student peer mediators to help solve conflicts between students! If you are in conflict with another student, please see me in Room E110 or you can e-mail me at robargeb@alpenaschools.com Remember, peer mediators are trained not to take sides or place blame on anyone.
