EMILY KIELISZEWSKI

Miss Michigan 2015

Emily Kieliszewski is the Member Programs Manager at the Michigan Municipal League, a visionary leader committed to transforming local government and championing women's empowerment. In this role, she orchestrates an array of services and initiatives benefiting the League's 525 member communities, including nearly 4,000 local elected officials and over 10,000 appointed officials.

At the helm of several impactful initiatives, including the League's Elected Officials Academy, Michigan Women in Municipal Government, executive search services, and member training and development programming, Emily's work is characterized by a passionate commitment to advancing local leaders and making Michigan communities great places to live and thrive.

Of particular focus in Emily’s career is empowering women leaders. Her leadership of the 16/50 Project has yielded impressive results, equipping hundreds of women leaders with essential skills and increasing the number of women in Michigan’s city manager positions from 16% to nearly 22% in just five years. This success has gained global recognition, featured by the International City/County Managers Association, and replicated as a model for other state and national organizations to support more women in local government leadership.

Before joining the League in 2016, Emily launched her career through various roles with nonprofit organizations and diverse positions in political campaigns. She also contributed her expertise as a staff member in the Michigan State Senate.

Emily received her bachelor's degree in political science from Michigan State University where she was selected as a Dean's Assistant Fellow. She is also an alumna of the Michigan Political Leadership Program through Michigan State's Institute of Public Policy and Social Research.

Emily extends her commitment to her community through active participation on multiple boards and leadership positions in nonprofit organizations, including as Vice President of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) – Michigan, the NAMI Northeast Michigan formation committee, and as a certified family support group facilitator. Her dedication also extends to civic engagement in her role as an election inspector, where she actively contributes to the democratic election process and embodies her commitment to upholding the principles of democracy at the grassroots level.

Notably, Emily represented her home state as Miss Michigan in 2015, a part of the Miss America Organization. During this year, she traveled thousands of miles across the United States, promoting child welfare, adoption advocacy, and mental health initiatives. She was a featured keynote speaker for a variety of statewide and national nonprofits, businesses, and organizations.

Emily is the daughter of Steven and Erin Kieliszewski. She is a sister to five siblings: Christopher (Molly) Kieliszewski, Hailey (Korey) Proulx, Collin Kieliszewski, Connor Kieliszewski, and Colby Kieliszewski, and the proud aunt of six: Lincoln, Elle, and Levi Kieliszewski; Parker and Cooper Proulx; and Tatum Kieliszewski.
