EMPOWERING 21ST CENTURY GRADUATES

The Wildcat Way...

Congratulations on your Selection...Owen Kinsey

Contributor: Citizenship- Recognize the importance of their role in our connected world; Involvement- Willing to actively engage to make a positive difference; Community Oriented- Able to balance self-interest with the needs of society.  Owen is a great ambassador for AHS and works part-time as the Sport's Writer with the Alpena News capturing the narrative of all of our athletics.  He does an outstanding job at being neutral and really being present for the events.  He misses the opportunity to be with his friends in the stands by taking on this role.  I have the luxury of standing with him and really getting to interact with him.  This picture really captures his spirit and his heart for what he does.  Owen, thanks for being a great supporter of AHS Athletics.

Congratulations on your selection...

Testing Corner

DIGITAL SAT

Dear Student,

Starting in 2024, the SAT will be digital, and registration is open for the March, May, and June test dates. Most colleges, including those that are test optional, consider SAT scores when making admission and placement decisions, and for certain scholarships. Your SAT score is a proven way to show what you’ve learned and stand out on applications.

Hear what students have to say about the digital SAT.

Non School Day SAT

Take the SAT with College Board. Find a testing center near you.

Prep for test day by taking advantage of free practice on Bluebook™, our testing app. The tools, tips, and shortcuts the digital experience offers will have you testing with confidence.

Aili Lee

Thank you for taking the time and effort to pursue this Student Ambassador program selection process. Your passion for VE and willingness to learn has shined through, as well as your potential to become a leader. On behalf of the VE Midwest Region team, CONGRATULATIONS on being selected to be a Michigan VE Student Ambassador! It is truly a pleasure to meet such dedicated high school students, and I am very excited to work with you this school year!

A Huge Thank You

Local organizations and credit unions pitched in to provide generous support to Alpena High School’s Parent organization KAPUT which stands for Kids and Parents United Together. The parent volunteers in KAPUT work to provide positive social activities for high school students during each school year. Up North Prevention from Catholic Human Services got things started awarding a $7,000 grant to KAPUT. Our always supportive area credit unions; Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union, Alpena Community Credit Union, HPC Credit Union, Northland Area Federal Credit Union and Wolverine State Credit Union provided another $6100 in donations and Alpena D.A.R.E. donated another $2000. “I’m overwhelmed by the incredible generosity of our community”, said Alpena High School Principal Romeo Bourdage. “I’m so thankful that these wonderful businesses and organizations want to help to provide tremendous opportunities for our kids”.

MI GEAR UP prepares students for postsecondary success by offering a variety of services throughout the student’s educational career and progression in the program — from their 9th grade to their first year of college.

HOW TO REPORT THREATS/CONCERNS

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.

PEER MEDIATION

AHS now has trained student peer mediators to help solve conflicts between students! If you are in conflict with another student, please see me in Room E110 or you can e-mail me at robargeb@alpenaschools.com Remember, peer mediators are trained not to take sides or place blame on anyone.
