WE HAVE TRAINED PEER MEDIATORS!
Last week students from the Student Climate Team were trained to conduct peer mediation for students who are in conflict with one another. One of our peer mediators already had a session with groups of students and did a great job! The goal of having peer mediators is to create an atmosphere in our school where both sides win and one party doesn't feel as if they get unfairly treated or penalized.
Please see Mr. Robarge in E110 (School Success) if you need help resolving an issue. Peer mediators don't take sides or place blame on anyone.
Testing Corner
Students who signed up and paid for the NMSQT will be testing Tuesday, 10/24/23. Students should report to the Gym for 7:30 with a charged Chromebook.
The American Service Aptitude Battery will be proctored on 11/1/2023. More details on what to bring will be shared soon!
Link your College Board account with Khan Academy to practice for the PSAT and SAT. Research shows consistently using Khan Academy can have positive impacts on your achievement!

FOOD SERVICE ~ UPDATE
Michigan School Meals is a fantastic program to support our students with a free complete breakfast and complete lunch, each full school day. With that program, in line with updated USDA federal guidelines, meals must be served in a group setting during meal service. Given these requirements, only breakfast will be served on ½ days of instruction.
It is our honor to serve the students of APS and appreciate their support of their families
If you have any questions please contact Food Services Director Nic Wiser 989 358 5021 or wisern@alpenaschools.com
Are you interested in being a Referee? There are opportunities for high school and college students to officiate.
Are you interested in Robotics?
On Wednesday, October 25th at 2:45pm in room D-102, there will be an informational meeting for anyone interested in joining AHS Robotics and Team 5505.
Please plan to attend this informational meeting. It should last about an hour. If you cannot attend, please contact Mr. Caplis.

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
PEER MEDIATION-WANT TO BE INVOLVED?
AHS is currently looking for additional peer mediators to replace the students who have graduated last year. I will be training several more students within the next week, but if you are interested in being involved with this program please stop in to see Mr. Robarge in Room E110 (School Success), or you can email me at robargeb@alpenaschools.com. Peer mediation is a voluntary process where students are trained as a neutral 3rd party to help students who are in conflict to better understand one another, and to come to a mutual agreement. They do not take sides or place blame on anyone.
