EMPOWERING 21ST CENTURY GRADUATES
Wildcat Way of the Week...
Mr. Buchinger & Mr. Pattison
Let's help celebrate AHS' two OUTSTANDING Assistant Principals as this week is dedicated to them in all that they do to provide a safe and secure school for all stakeholders. They are outstanding staff and student advocates and work to always do what's best for both.
They are truly a kid's principal and one that students access for anything,
I cannot ask for two better partners to work side-by-side with each and everyday. As I took on the Principalship this year, I am fortunate to have two such fine colleagues that work tirelessly to ensure that the vision at AHS is always at the forefront.
I challenge you to seek moments this week to thank both of them for all they do to make AHS great.
Mr. Buchinger & Mr. Pattison, thank you for all you do everyday to make AHS the best. You have been committed all year to making AHS a place where all can THRIVE-- thank you truly for all you do!!
You two make great teammates, and I am so lucky that you are on the Administrative team.
Rescheduled Parent/Teacher Conferences -- Thursday 3-6pm
We are excited to welcome all parents to visit with our teaching staff, counselors, Administration, School Success, and Dean. Over the past two years, we have not had the opportunity to meet face-to-face, so I hope that you all take full advantage of this opportunity. The teachers will be in the Large Commons, Mini Commons, and Media Center. We have information at the greeting table for parents.
We will NOT be running schedules.
I have the ParentVUE videos below which is how you can access your student schedule. We can help you when you arrive if you need anything or have questions. We will be located at the entrance to of the back oval.
Campus Closet will be open during conferences, and they would love to have you all visit and make a purchase! If you have not visited the store, you will be amazed at the great products that they have to sell.
Are you new to ParentVUE? Watch this video to see an overview of all the features. The features are the same for TBJH and AHS. If you need an activation key, please call the school.
Please look back to my Last Week's Update with all the instructions on how to set up accounts.
Did you know that April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month?
According to the Women’s Legal Service NSW: Sexual assault is a legal term used to describe a range of sexual offences, from showing indecent images to another person, to kissing or touching them, as well as penetration of the person’s body with a body part or object. The Department of Justice further states: Any non-consensual sexual act, including when the victim lacks the capacity to consent.
So what is consent? Ask permission before going forward with physical contact. If you do not ask, your partner cannot give consent. Asking if your physical advances are okay with your partner is very important. Discussing your plans before acting on them is the mature thing to do. If either partner says no the final answer is no ... do not proceed! The safest and best option is always abstinence. Even unwanted comments about a person's body or sexual preference, explicit pictures, or "jokes" can constitute sexual harassment. Anything that makes you feel uncomfortable should be discussed with a trusted person.
Throughout the month of April you will be receiving more information on Sexual Assault. If you or a friend has experienced sexual assault or harassment, go to a trusted adult and report it. That adult can be a parent, teacher, counselor, pastor, family friend or law enforcement. Even if you're not sure, feel free to talk with a trusted adult in a confidential capacity.
Counselor Corner: It is Dual Enrollment Time! If you are planning on taking any ACC classes first semester of next year through the Dual Enrollment Program, it is time to get the paperwork going. You should make an appointment with your counselor soon to select your class(es) and get the paperwork completed. Classes at ACC fill quickly so do not delay. (We schedule ACC semester 2 classes in November).

Welcome Isaac Matzke as the newest Para Pro for Welding at AHS
I am going to be working at AHS two days per week in the welding lab throughout the remainder of the year. I am currently enrolled at Ferris State University studying Welding Engineering and am excited to work with students in an area that is my passion. It is awesome to come back as an Alumni and a former student in the welding program to give back and share what I love.
Welcome Brenda Hanson as the newest Para Pro in our Auto Service Technology Program at AHS
I was born and raised in Alpena and happy to return to the community to give back. After serving and retiring from the US Air Force after 20 years, worked in management for an additional 35 years, I am happy to be back teaching and working with students. My hobbies are golf, the outdoors, gardening, reading and connecting with my nieces and nephews as they grow up. I am super excited to join the AHS team and work with Mr. Maj in the Auto Department.
After School Tutoring!
We are continuing to offer tutoring assistance after school for all AHS students! This will be staffed by AHS teachers and assistance can be provided in any subject. Tutoring sessions will be held in the Media Center from 2:45 to 3:45pm every Monday and Thursday that students have a full-day. Specific information for each week will be posted in student announcements. Students do not need to sign up in advance and students are responsible for their own transportation. Please contact Mr. Pattison @ (pattisonj@alpenaschools.com) if you have any questions.
OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
