Mrs. Daoust has been instrumental in the Counseling Center in leading and seeing the work from a historic lens making processes better for staff and students. She works one-on-one with students in a therapeutic manner to work through issues and make their lives better in many ways. Thank you for your service to making AHS better every day.
Mr. Stoppa makes the classroom come to life for our students in an engaging and meaningful manner. His teaching style is one that makes students think and dig deeper all the time regardless of the lesson or time period. He is constantly striving to make lessons fresh and new for his students. He is a Master Teacher that sets the bar high at Alpena High School. Mr. Stoppa, thank you for all you do.

COUNSELOR CORNER:
SENIORS--Please turn in your scholarship letters to Mrs. Vought in the downstairs E House office if you would like to be recognized by your counselor in our Virtual Senior Awards Program. If we don't know about your scholarship, we will not be able to announce it. (You do not have to turn in scholarship letters for ACC, since the college will let us know.) Please turn in copies of letters just for the college you plan to attend.
SENIORS---Most of you will not be here for the testing day next week. Here are some ideas regarding things you could accomplish on that day:
If you are interested in attending college locally, apply to ACC, if you haven't already done so.
Contact ACC at (989) 356-9021 to find out who your college advisor will be. (You will be assigned an advisor based upon your intended major). You can make an appointment now to meet with your advisor at ACC to register for the fall. Fall registration for ACC is open now, so it would be best to schedule early to take advantage of all opportunities before classes fill up.
Job Shadow in your chosen career field.
Take the ACCUPLACER exam at ACC, if needed.
Check Synergy for your current grades. Catch up on missing assignments for classes here at AHS.
Work on your online class(es) to get caught up, or ahead .... you could even finish it so it is off of your plate.
Finish your FAFSA---free application for federal student aid. Go to www.fafsa.gov and let Jennifer Taratuta in the library know if you need assistance. Remember, the new Michigan Achievement Scholarship is available only to those who fill out their FAFSA!
Relax and enjoy your time off!

Assessment Corner:
IT'S TESTING WEEK!!!!
Here are some helpful hints to get ready for testing this week
Testing day ~ Wednesday (9-11 grades)
Thursday ~ Juniors Testing ACT WorkKeys
Get a good night's sleep the days prior to testing, not just the night before.
Eat a healthy breakfast and hydrate well.
Don't cram for the test the night before, regular reviews are better.
Visualize doing well on the test, keeping a positive attitude will improve your scores.
Try your best.
When the last 5 minutes are announced get the blanks filled in. A guess at that point is often better than no answer at all.
Juniors, list ACC as one of the schools to receive your test scores, just in case.
On the breaks get up and move.... movement / exercise will help energize you and get the oxygen flowing better.
Stress before tests is normal and to be expected.... but DON'T over-stress.... you can always retest.
Did You Miss Pre-ID for Testing?
Due to your absence at this week's Pre-ID session, you are expected to attend the Make-Up session
on Monday 4/10/23. Getting this done ahead of the actual test will save you valuable time and stress on
testing days.

WHERE: AHS Auditorium
BRING: A form of ID with you - this can be a drivers license, student ID, Synergy Student Vue or personal recognition by a staff member. We will supply the #2 pencils.

PEER MEDIATION
AHS now has trained student peer mediators to help solve conflicts between students! If you are in conflict with another student, please see me in Room E110 or you can e-mail me at robargeb@alpenaschools.com Remember, peer mediators are trained not to take sides or place blame on anyone.
OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
