Mrs. Spomer recognized Nevaeh this week. It is evident that Nevaeh works hard in class and is a team player. She not only communicated with her teachers but her peers as well. We have no doubt that you will do great things Nevaeh! Thank you for being a role model at AHS.

If you have questions, please see Mrs. Johnson in the Restorative Center on Monday or Mrs. Sharp in F-105.
AHS students did a great job testing this week and this photo shows them exiting day two WorkKeys for the Juniors.
Thank you to Mrs. Wooden (interim Testing Coordinator), Mrs. Sharp, Special Accommodations Coordinator, and Mrs. Johnson, Administrative Assistant to Testing ~ who together made testing at AHS a success.
COUNSELING CORNER:
Did you know that April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month?
According to the Women’s Legal Service NSW: Sexual assault is a legal term used to describe a range of sexual offences, from showing indecent images to another person, to kissing or touching them, as well as penetration of the person’s body with a body part or object. The Department of Justice further states: Any non-consensual sexual act, including when the victim lacks the capacity to consent.
So what is consent? Ask permission before going forward with physical contact. If you do not ask, your partner cannot give consent. Asking if your physical advances are okay with your partner is very important. Discussing your plans before acting on them is the mature thing to do. If either partner says no the final answer is no ... do not proceed! The safest and best option is always abstinence. Even unwanted comments about a person's body or sexual preference, explicit pictures, or "jokes" can constitute sexual harassment. Anything that makes you feel uncomfortable should be discussed with a trusted person.
If you or a friend has experienced sexual assault or harassment, go to a trusted adult and report it. That adult can be a parent, teacher, counselor, pastor, family friend or law enforcement. Even if you're not sure, feel free to talk with a trusted adult in a confidential capacity.
Dress Code ~ Parents, We Need Your Help!
The letter attached was the message that we used last spring to help, as dress code was an issue as the weather warmed up.
Admin found great support in reaching out to parents focusing on personal perspective "as to what they believe to be acceptable dress in school."
As the weather warmed fast this past week, it is a great opportunity to discuss the letter and dress code with your student. Please take time this weekend to review our letter and determine what you see as "appropriate for school" and what you can do to help support the "dress that is geared toward what students should wear in the workforce."
We do have clothing that students can access in the AHS Clothing Closet located in E House; students are sent there when necessary. In no way do we want any student to feel humiliated or uncomfortable; students are also welcome to call home for a change of clothes.
Principals/Dean will be calling home when necessary and hope to find support at home. We look forward to teaming up to make school dress code a collaborative effort.

Exploring Career Pathways with Mrs. Attwell
Career and Technical Education student ambassadors presented a "Career Fair" at Lincoln Elementary school on April 6th. They put together hands-on activities, displayed typical equipment that is used in their field of study, and directly interacted with kindergarten through 5th grade students. Lincoln students were able to visit different CTE programs where they got a sticker and other "goodies" to take home that hopefully later sparked conversations about what they saw and were able to participate in.
The CTE ambassador students were shining stars, they represented their programs and AHS with pride. Lincoln students had a memorable experience. They sure do look up to the "big" kids. Our ambassadors have given a hand in building the future of AHS. What a FUN day for all!

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
PEER MEDIATION
AHS now has trained student peer mediators to help solve conflicts between students! If you are in conflict with another student, please see me in Room E110 or you can e-mail me at robargeb@alpenaschools.com Remember, peer mediators are trained not to take sides or place blame on anyone.
