Test prep will occur in students' core classes before testing day.
Additional test prep opportunities are planned for Advisory.
Dates/times will be announced for grades 9-11 Evening Test Prep Sessions for English and Math.
Date/time will be announced for a grades 9-11 Saturday Test Prep Session.
2023 Overall Spring Testing Schedule:
All Freshmen and Sophomores will take the PSAT on Wednesday, April 12. Make up dates: April 25, PSAT 10 and April 26, PSAT 9.
All Juniors will take the SAT on Wednesday, April 12 and the ACT on Thursday, April 13. The M-STEP will be administered to all Juniors whose last name begins with A-L on Wednesday, April 19 and M-Z on Thursday, April 20.
Seniors do not report to school on Wednesday, April 12. This is a good day to visit colleges, fill out college applications, apply for scholarships or job shadow.

The SAT is more than just a test. It's a tool that helps unlock opportunity.
Did you know that SAT scores:
Are still accepted and encouraged by most colleges?
Can open the door to scholarship opportunities and help with college course placement?
Could confirm or exceed your high school GPA to help you stand out?
And if you took the PSAT/NMSQT®, you're already familiar with—and prepared for—the SAT.
Winterfest is upon us!
Spirit days begin this week! Each day you participate, your advisory teachers will give out spirit coupons. Entering those into the Spirit Bin in the main office will give you a chance to win some prizes during the assembly.
Tickets will go on sale starting Monday during all three lunches for only $10! To get a ticket, you need to have less than 7 unexcused absences and less than 3 failing grades. Talk to your teachers and principals if you have any questions! We will sell at the door, but buying ahead of time is the best way to get in fast and easy. If you are trying to take a guest to the dance, you must get a guest pass (found in house offices) and have it filled out by Thursday. Do not procrastinate this!
Each class is working on their hallways and murals! If you want your class to take home the spirit jug, stop by after school and help out. This Thursday, from 2:30 to 5, each class will be decorating and wrapping up their hallways. We’ll have free food and drinks, so offer a hand if you’re free! Spirit Week is a great opportunity to meet some new faces and do some great things, so don’t delay!
As one last way to get some extra points, we will also be putting out a donation bin in the commons for donations to the Alpena Animal Control. Things like food, cleaning supplies, accessories, blankets, etc. would be fantastic. The class who can bring in the most will get a hefty amount of points added to their score!
If there are any questions on anything Winterfest, please reach out to Mr. Thatcher in E205 or C132 at any time. Make it a great week, Wildcats!

After School Tutoring!
We are continuing to offer tutoring assistance after school for all AHS students! This will be staffed by AHS teachers and assistance can be provided in any subject. Tutoring sessions will be held in the Wildcat Den (former Media Center) from 2:45 to 3:45pm every Monday and Wednesday that students have a full-day. Specific information for each week will be posted in student announcements. Students do not need to sign up in advance and students are responsible for their own transportation. Please contact Mr. Pattison @ (pattisonj@alpenaschools.com) if you have any questions.
OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
PEER MEDIATION
AHS now has trained student peer mediators to help solve conflicts between students! If you are in conflict with another student, please see me in Room E110 or you can e-mail me at robargeb@alpenaschools.com Remember, peer mediators are trained not to take sides or place blame on anyone.
