These students, along with the VFW Honor Guard raised the winter flag, with the playing of Taps, in front of the AHS student body on Veterans Day. The entire ceremony was amazing. Students from the Alpena Exchange Excel Club lowered the summer flag, folded it, and raised the winter flag. They modeled respectful behavior which was followed by the rest of the students. Thank you for being leaders in our building and making a positive difference!
Reaghan is an incredible positive light in our classroom environment and school community. She is dedicated, hard-working, and inquisitive in all she does, always seeking to better herself and those around her. She is also heavily involved in activities outside of school, and this commitment to giving her best effort in many areas is inspiring! She continues to go above and beyond and blaze a trail for her peers. AHS is fortunate to have such a standout student! - Mr. Roznowski

Counseling Corner
*Are you child's grades slipping? Are there many missing assignments in Grade Book? Here are some suggestions for your child:
-Review the list of missing assignments and ask your teacher(s) which ones can still be turned in, even for partial credit.
-Go through your bag, room, etc. and find any work you started or have finished. Complete it and turn it in.
-In every subject, but math, complete the larger point assignments first. Turn them in.
-In math, start with the oldest assignment and complete what you can and turn them in.
-In any class where tests/quizzes can be redone, talk to your teacher about retaking those.
**Set a goal to have all work made up and grade up to a "C" by Christmas break.** When this goal is reached, find some way to safely celebrate your child for their hard work.**
DUAL ENROLLMENT: If you have not scheduled an appointment with your counselor yet for semester 2 dual enrollment classes..... you need to ASAP. ACC classes are filling up!
Students ~ Anticipating to graduate early at the end of semester 1?
Students who will have successfully completed graduation requirements after seven (7) semesters may petition to graduate by Thanksgiving of that school year. The discussion on graduating early should be done with the student’s Guidance Counselor during the senior meeting and/or during a junior appointment in the spring of the junior year. Early graduates must take full responsibility to make arrangements with the high school office for anything pertaining to the graduation ceremony (i.e., announcements, cap and gown, graduation rehearsal). Students who graduate early and participate in the commencement ceremony have the opportunity to participate in Senior Experience Day and the Senior Celebration.
If you have not yet signed up for a Parchment account, please be sure to do so soon. Even if you are not sending transcripts this year, it's a valuable resource. All students who are not registered should have received an email with a registration link. If you did not, please visit Parchment.com to create a free account.

Exiting AHS
~ Student Pedestrian and Vehicle Safety ~
~ Talk to Your Students about Safety ~
Safety First as You Exit the Student Parking Lot
Mrs. Wawro (AHS Security), Officer Collegnon, and Mr. Bourdage have been out all week helping to ensure cars hold for the buses and leave orderly.
The Bus Garage asked that AHS stop traffic to allow them time to exit AHS safely.
One of us will stop traffic for not more than 3 minutes to help the buses ~ Students, please help out and wait patiently.
The left turn lane is very difficult to exit onto 3rd Street ~ Parents, encourage young drivers to turn right if at all possible.
The left turn lane on 3rd Street is very troubling ~ please ensure that you have a clear view of the left turn lane that blocks your view ~ proceed with extreme caution always.
Pedestrian Traffic Exiting AHS to the Parking Lot
Front Oval ~ please use the sidewalks as you exit on either side of the oval.
It is not safe to walk in front of the buses as they try to exit the oval in a timely manner.
At the intersection of the oval, please give the buses the "Right of Way" as they begin to exit the oval and road.
Do not walk out in front of buses to reach the parking lot.
Please be courteous to our drivers - many of whom have another bus run after AHS.
Thank you as we try to make this as safe as possible.

Specific information for each week will be posted in student announcements. Students do not need to sign up in advance and students are responsible for their own transportation. PEER MEDIATION
AHS now has trained student peer mediators to help solve conflicts between students! If you are in conflict with another student, please see me in Room E110 or you can e-mail me at robargeb@alpenaschools.com Remember, peer mediators are trained not to take sides or place blame on anyone.
OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
