Empowering 21st Century Graduates
What is the wildcat way...
The AHS Climate Team met over the summer months to help rebrand the Mission and Vision for AHS to align with the district and to bring together our staff's commitment to the AHS mission: "AHS is Committed to Producing 21st Century Graduates." The new branding/tagline “Empowering 21st Century Graduates” and the "Wildcat Way" will help students and staff connect to a common theme using the District's Profile of a Graduate, which includes the characteristics of Creative, Collaborative, Contributor, Continuous Learner, Critical Thinker, Culturally Minded, and Confident. The AHS Student of the Week will be selected by staff when exemplifying one of the seven traits listed on the wheel. The team is excited to begin the year with a revitalization in connecting with students and a commitment to building strong relationships along the journey. We look forward to this new school year as we focus on fostering a positive school culture at AHS and bringing all stakeholders to the forefront, making AHS a great place to learn and grow.
IMPORTANT SCHEDULING INFORMATION
AHS Students and Parents,
Our counseling team has been working incredibly hard this month to ensure all students have the best schedule possible. Below are a few important things to note regarding scheduling changes.
Thank you to everyone who has used the Course Change Request form to communicate scheduling needs. If your course change was approved, but you have not heard back from your counselor, please follow your current schedule until your counselor or I notifies you that your schedule has been updated.
If students are missing an hour or have a course conflict in their schedule on Monday, they should report to E-House office during that hour only. We will only be making schedule changes for extenuating circumstances, and in most cases we will not be making schedule changes for electives. We try very hard to get students into the electives they requested, but that is not always possible and many of our electives are at capacity. When picking your classes each spring, it is imperative that you choose wisely because AHS staffing is BASED upon YOUR choices at that time.
We will still be making schedule changes and balancing classes over the weekend, so it is extremely important that students check their schedule in Synergy Sunday evening or Monday morning.
We will not be making any schedule changes after Thursday, September 2nd.
We are looking forward to a great year and can't wait to see our students Tuesday morning!

STUDENTVUE & PARENTVUE
Students
Access your schedule and grades.
You can visit the website or download the StudentVUE App on mobile devices.
All students who were enrolled in APS last school year should have a StudentVUE account. If you forgot your password, visit the website and click "forgot password."
New to APS students: students can get their activation code with any house secretary or by calling switchboard 358-5200.
Parents:
Please log into your ParentVUE Account (all information will be in ParentVUE) to make sure your phone number, address, and emergency contact information are correct.
You can visit ParentVUE by clicking the link, downloading the app on a mobile device (ParentVUE) or going to alpenaschools.com. You can also access an instructional video on the parent page on "How to Activate a ParentVUE account."
Did you know you can submit your child's absence using the ParentVUE app? This is the most efficient way to let the school know your child will be absent.
Important Information:
No Bell at AHS: We do not use a bell system at AHS. At times, the Main Office may begin the day by manually doing a first bell alerting students; however, students are to watch their time and head to class in a timely fashion. We stress student responsibility - and it works!
Bus Information was handed out at Open House (there were a lot remaining) and is available to you on ParentVUE app as explained above. There was a robo call on busing as well and information is available on AHS and APS Facebook pages.
Medication needs, please contact or see Mrs. Manning in the Main Office, or by calling 358-5200. All medication is dispensed out of the Main Office. The authorization forms must all be completed before medication can be dispensed. Please do not bring the meds without the proper forms completed.
Visitors: Restrictions on visitors and parents in the building will remain. All visitors must complete a Health Screener Form at the table as you enter and be masked. Please contact Mr. Bourdage for visitor guidance. We ask for a little grace and patience as we start the year and work to keep everyone safe.
Masks are strongly recommended for students and staff and ARE required on the school bus for staff and students per federal guidelines.
Dual Enrollment: ACC will temporarily require all students, staff, faculty, and visitors to wear a face covering that covers the mouth and nose in any ACC Building.
Lunch and Breakfast are free this year as APS is participating in the Seamless Summer Option as part of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs for the 2021-2022 school year. We are asking parents to fill out and sign the free and reduced lunch meal application at LunchApp.
Dual Enrollment Students-- Attendance: You MUST sign in and out with Mrs. Tessmer everyday for your Dual Enrollment classes. The only door open will be the one to the left of the Wildcat as you approach the Front Oval. Thank you for remembering this piece each day.
Attendance: all students entering or leaving must sign out in the Attendance office. If you have an online class any hour other than 1st or 6th, you will need to remain in the building. You can work in the Online Room or the in the Commons.
Advisory: It is listed on your schedule as a 7th hour. The course meets after 2nd hour daily. Please make a mental note so you don't accidentally go to 3rd hour.
Week of 8/29/21
CHROMEBOOK NEEDS
Mrs. Samp will be located in the hallway adjacent to the Media Center for a majority of the day. She is the AHS goto contact for all Chromebook support within the building.
If you returned your Chromebook to AHS in June, Mrs. Samp will be connecting with you via email and will have the Chromebook for you at her station.
If there are issues with your Chromebook, Mrs. Samp is the first contact.
We do not have spare Chromebooks for use if it is forgotten - you have to remember to bring your Chromebook daily and make sure that it is charged. The spare Chromebooks are for units that are not working properly and in need of repair. Thank you for your personal responsibility to come to school prepared and ready to learn.
If you do not have a Chromebook and were not issued one last year, please alert your Advisory teacher.
CHROMEBOOK INSURANCE
Parents have the option to purchase insurance at a one time fee of $30 per Chromebook (this is NEW this year). The initial payment for insurance, protection, and deductibles will apply for the lifetime of the Chromebook or until the student graduates from AHS. Payments can be made by check to Alpena Public Schools or through School Pay. You can find all the details in the document to the left.
