This week, we are thrilled to celebrate Staff Appreciation Week! Our entire high school community is fundamentally better because of the extraordinary dedication of our staff members. Day in and day out, they tackle their responsibilities with a relentless, student-centered focus, ensuring that our students remain the driving motivation behind everything we do. Without this incredible team working together, the supportive, welcoming environment we provide simply wouldn’t be possible. If you or your student have a moment this week, we highly encourage you to reach out and send a message of thanks to a staff member who has made a positive impact on your student's daily life.
As part of our week-long celebration, we are also giving a special highlight this Tuesday to Teacher Appreciation Day. We are so incredibly grateful for the tireless effort our teachers put forth in the classroom to help our students excel, succeed, and reach the next level in their academic journeys. We also want to extend a thank you to our Student Council, who will be helping us celebrate with special treats throughout the week to honor our building's incredible team. Please join us in celebrating this week—whether it’s a quick email, a handwritten note, or a simple "thank you," let’s show our teachers and all other staff members how much we appreciate everything they do!
Even though School Lunch Hero Day officially fell on Friday, we absolutely could not let the moment pass without giving a huge shoutout to our phenomenal lunch crew! We are incredibly fortunate to have such a wonderful team that provides what is undoubtedly the best food in the area—we genuinely don't think there is another school out there with a lunch program as great as ours. Beyond the delicious meals they serve daily, it is their authentic connectivity with the kids that truly sets them apart. They consistently go above and beyond to make lunchtime a very special, bright, and welcoming part of the day for every single student who walks through the cafeteria doors. Thank you to our amazing lunch heroes for everything you do to nourish our students both physically and emotionally; we appreciate you more than words can say!

Important Calendar Change for Memorial Day Weekend
Good afternoon,
Last night, during the April regular meeting, the APS Board of Education approved a change to the school year calendar. Friday, May 22, which was originally scheduled as a day off for students and staff, will now be a regular day of work and instruction.
State law requires us to provide 180 days of instruction. While the law allows for six forgiven days annually and an appeal process for three additional days, we have exhausted all available options. As a result, we are required to make up this date and potentially six others, depending on decisions from the state legislature and the governor.
We are currently awaiting a final decision from the state regarding the number of days that may be forgiven following the recent ice storm. Legislators are considering various bills to determine forgiveness for schools across the state. Once the legislature and the governor provide official direction, we will finalize and announce the official last day of school.
We apologize for any inconvenience this and any potential upcoming schedule changes may cause you and your family. We understand the frustration of having to adjust your schedule, especially since planning is difficult without a confirmed end-of-year date. We appreciate your continued patience and flexibility as we navigate these state-level requirements.
We will share the final plan for the remainder of the school year as soon as more information becomes available.
Sincerely,
Dave Rabbideau, Ph.D.
Superintendent Alpena Public Schools
Students, have you talked to your teachers about your final exam(s) and what you should expect?
Be ready and do well! Final Exams for all Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors are closer than you think.
We are awaiting Legistlation updates for the last day of school which will impact the last day of school and exam dates.
Dress code will be enforced. Warmer weather does not excuse inappropriate clothing choices. Excessive skin showing or revealing undergarments are not permitted. You may be asked to change and call home.

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
Student Climate Team will be trained to conduct peer mediation for students who are in conflict with one another. The goal of having peer mediation at AHS is to help create a more positive culture in our school where both sides win and one party doesn't feel as if they are being treated unfairly. Please see Mr. Robarge in Restorative Center (School Success) if you need help resolving an issue. Peer mediators don't take sides or place blame on anyone!
