EMPOWERING 21ST CENTURY GRADUATES
Mrs. Smith continues to be a champion for student success and growth beyond high school. Through her FFA efforts, she embodies the Wildcat culture by promoting community partnerships, outreach, healthy competition, and teaching her students core values of being upstanding citizens. She is an advocate for student leadership and recongnition. Her efforts in hosting the Michigan FFA Region VI Regional Leadership Contests in February were a true reflection of her dedication to her students, community, and AHS. Thank you, Melissa, for all you do for our students and our school.

No Bells during the Testing Window
As we near testing, I want to alert all students that due to testing, there will be no bells during the two week window of testing. Rather than turning bells on and off and for consistency, the bells will be off and staff will release students each hour.
This is for students who have already registered

Counseling
⚠️⚠️ Attention: If you signed up for an ONLINE CLASS or a DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASS when you completed your schedule requests, you need to make an appointment with your counselor to choose your class and get the necessary forms so you can be enrolled. If you plan to take an online class and don't turn in a form, it will eventually be replaced with an in person class in your fall schedule. Dual enrollment students, you want to be sure to meet ASAP so there is still space in the classes you want. Click here to make an appointment request: Counseling Appointment Form ⚠️⚠️
⏰⏰ If you are struggling with failing grades, don't wait any longer to come up with a plan. Don't get past the point of no return. There is less time in the semester than you think! Make an appointment if you need help.⏰⏰

Tornado Drill Feedback
Last week, all staff and students participated in a tornado drill. Overall, it was a learning experience with some room for growth. In the area we live in, a tornado may not be as likely as others but they are still a possible weather event we must plan for. There has been an increase in tornado activity in the southern and middle parts of Michigan over the last couple years. Practicing for a tornado is just as important as any other event and should be taken seriously. We practice these drills to build muscle memory and to strengthen our reaction times so we are prepared in the event of a real tornado. Here are some key reminders when we participate in tornado drills.
Electronics like cellphones and other personal devices MUST not be in use. If it is during class time, your cellphone should be in your locker or backpack and can be confiscated if seen by staff. If you are on lunch or it is during passing time, your cellphone should be away so you can focus on staff directions.
All students evacuate their classrooms and common areas as directed by staff (upstairs classrooms will go downstairs in the house they are in).
All students MUST remain quiet and listen for staff directions. This is not the time to socialize. Take this seriously. You need to be able to hear what staff are telling you.
All staff and students must act quickly -- Treat this like any emergency -- Seconds matter -- Tornadoes appear quickly, and we need to be able to get to safety as soon as possible.
Student Parking ~ Get your parking pass if you don't have one in the Main Office
There is no cost If you have a recent birthday
It helps identify vehicles in the event there is a need
Please park in student parking, do NOT use Front Oval parking or senior parking spots. We need to keep those available for visitors and handicap.
No student parking in the Teacher lot by F House, the Teacher/visitor parking lot by the Green House, back oval by the gym.
Thank you for being respectful and abiding by the parking guidelines.

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
Student Climate Team has been trained to conduct peer mediation for students who are in conflict with one another. The goal of having peer mediation at AHS is to help create a more positive culture in our school where both sides win and one party doesn't feel as if they are being treated unfairly. Please see Mr. Robarge in the Restorative Center (School Success) if you need help resolving an issue. Peer mediators don't take sides or place blame on anyone!
