EMPOWERING 21ST CENTURY GRADUATES
Deborah Dickinson does a phenomenal job each and every day. She is a bright spot in our staff and a warm, welcoming face in the main office. She steps up wherever needed without being asked and is a team player for coverage. This year she has done a lot of work to spearhead conferences. Finally, Debbie has put a lot of care into decorating the main office to make it more warm and welcoming.
Counseling
Attention Students: Check your email for information on setting up your Parchment account for your transcripts. Many students have not yet created their account. It is free and only takes a few steps. Enter your school email address AND a personal email address, so we can easily process your transcript after you graduate! Most colleges prefer this method of sending transcripts. This method is also used when applying to colleges, as well as some scholarships. You can also request copies for yourself via Parchment. An additional note, final transcripts are not automatically sent after gradutation. You will have to request that the final transcript be sent to your school.

A Message From the Superintendent
Dear Alpena Public Schools Students and Families,
Our district is working to "Reimagine" our future, and we need your voice!
To ensure we are providing the best possible education for every student, we are developing a long-term plan for our school facilities. This plan will help us address long-term factors like our 50-year enrollment trend and our 604-square-mile district.
We have partnered with experts to study our buildings and population, and that work has produced a first look at potential draft scenarios for what our schools could look like.
To be clear, these are not final plans—they are conversation-starters. We are presenting them to get your feedback. These ideas explore broad questions like:
What are the benefits of different grade-level groupings?
How could centralizing programs better serve students?
How can we best use all our school buildings efficiently and equitably?
We have two opportunities for you to join the conversation next week. To better support community dialogue, both meetings will be held at the Alpena High School Wildcat Den.
1. Board of Education Workshop
Date: Monday, Nov. 17
Time: 5:30 pm
Location: Alpena High School Wildcat Den
Note: This is a new location for the board's regular workshop. The facility plan is the primary item on the agenda, and the public is encouraged to attend and provide feedback.
2. Community Engagement Forum
Date: Wednesday, November 19
Time: 5:30 P.M.
Location: Alpena High School Wildcat Den
Note: This is a dedicated forum hosted by district and project leaders, designed specifically to hear your ideas and feedback.
Your voice is essential as we plan for the future of our schools. We hope to see you there!
Vision Screening For All 9th Graders
District Health Department No. 4 will be at AHS on December 15th & 16th for vision screening for all 9th graders. This screening provides the testing required by Act. No. 368 of the Public Health Code of 1978.
Items To Review
Freshmen and Seniors, did you miss the Jostens ordering deadline for class rings or cap and gowns? Get in touch with Ms. Escott in the Main Office. Seniors especially, you don't want to miss out on this memorable opportunity to be a part of graduation!
Parents Dropping Off Students We Need Your Help
If you are late dropping your student off after 7:35am, please drive around to the Front Oval and have your student go through the Student Entrance/Attendance Office to check in-- They are tardy and need to have a pass when reporting to class. We cannot continue to let students in the back oval entrance after the doors are secured. Your student may get a detention for being tardy so work to be here on time. In the event there are issues, you should communicate with your student's principal.
Parking Lot End of Day - Student Notice
At the end of the school day, buses have not been able to leave the parking lot on 3rd Ave due to student traffic. Moving forward, a member of AHS security and/or Officer JC will be directing traffic. Student drivers will be required to wait until all buses have left the parking lot before leaving for the day. Please be patient and help us keep buses on schedule.
is returning to AHS. More information to come

OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
Student Climate Team will be trained to conduct peer mediation for students who are in conflict with one another. The goal of having peer mediation at AHS is to help create a more positive culture in our school where both sides win and one party doesn't feel as if they are being treated unfairly. Please see Mr. Robarge in Restorative Center (School Success) if you need help resolving an issue. Peer mediators don't take sides or place blame on anyone!
Have you ever wondered how our school lunch menus are created? Curious about what goes into deciding a snow day? Or perhaps you’ve been puzzled by terms like "collective bargaining agreement" or wondered why the district can’t purchase gifts for staff?
If so, we invite you to participate in our "ASK APS" initiative. This is your chance to ask the questions that matter to you. Each month, we’ll select questions that are intriguing, timely, or widely relevant to answer in the Superintendent's Update, Central Office communications, school newsletters, or even at Board meetings.
While we may not be able to address every question, we’re committed to answering as many as we can.
Please note: This form is not intended for questions specific to individual students or situations. For those, please reach out directly to your child’s teacher or principal.
Rest assured, your submissions are completely anonymous—no contact information is collected
