Special Education NEST Lead Teacher (Coach)

 

Provide onsite consultation and feedback to support evidence based ASD practices in an inclusive setting for children with autism.  Co-teaching support within each class to promote social/emotional and sensory development and promote best practices.  Facilitate professional development, training, and bi-weekly case conferences for staff working in the program.  Provide non-academic support for children with autism during transitions, specials, lunch, arrival and dismissal etc.  Work with speech therapists to provide social development interventions and bring language back to the classroom. 

 

Qualifications:

·       Hold a valid Virginia teaching license with specific endorsement in the area(s) to which
    assigned.

·       Strong written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills.

·       Completed ASD Foundations Course (or will take next offering)

·       Co-teaching experience

·       Knowledge of evidence based practices for students with autism

·       Knowledge of the Nest model and Tier system of supports

Performance Responsibilities:

Professional Performance

·       comply with school and school board policies and regulations,

·       Communicate with other staff and family members about each student’s progress and
    struggles.

·       Participate in IEP (individual education plan) meetings as scheduled by the school

·       Use individualized reinforcement techniques to help each student succeed,

·       Invite family members to participate in each student’s educational progress

·       Create and distribute progress reports quarterly

·       Create a safe, productive classroom environment

·       Participate in weekly student case conference meetings with Nest team members,

·       Collaborate with SLP on social curriculum used in social club and in the classroom,

·       practice and promote positive interaction with and among administration, faculty and staff,

·       relate positively to parents and other community representatives,

·       demonstrate professional growth,

·       help promote a positive school climate/environment,

·       prompt and accurate with required records and reports,

·       demonstrate command of standard English, both spoken and written,

·       accept responsibilities outside the classroom as they relate to the school,

·       use instructional and planning time effectively,

·       assume responsibility for care of materials, equipment and facilities,

·       assume responsibility for a neat, safe environment for students committed to the
      teacher's  care, and

·       maintain an atmosphere of mutual respect and courtesy with students.

    maintain good student discipline.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:          Ten-month contract.  Salary to be established by the Board. 

 

EVALUATION: Performance on this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board's  policy and administrative regulations of certificated personnel.
