Instructional Coach

TITLE: Instructional Coach

PRIMARY FUNCTION;

The role of the Instructional Coach is a ten-month, school-based position whose focus and accountability is supporting teachers and building personnel in their efforts towards improving students’ achievement.

QUALIFICATIONS;

• Masters preferred 

• Five years of successful, effective teaching as evidenced by student performance data

• In-depth knowledge of

 o Mathematical concepts

 o Assessment of students’ thinking and understanding

 o Reading processes

 o Curriculum

 o Instructional Strategies 

 o Data Analysis

 o Intervention Strategies

• Experience in modeling, observing, and providing informal feedback about instruction for classroom teachers

• Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills and an understanding of how to facilitate growth in adults

• Proven track record regarding professionalism and leadership qualities

REPORTS TO: Principal and Coordinator of Gifted Services

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILIES:

• Analyze student work

• Monitor student progress

• Interpret assessment data

• Provide professional development for grade levels, departments or whole faculty

• Participate in grade-level or department team meetings

• Ensure academic rigor in curriculum planning, lessons for accelerated/gifted students through teaching, team teaching and modeling

• Observe and provide feedback about instruction for classroom teachers

• Participate in staff development opportunities with faculty teams

• Model and co-teach lessons with classroom teacher

• Teach, reinforce, and/or enrich mathematic and literacy skills and concepts to individual and small groups of students

• Coordinate SOL, MAP and other school-wide testing
