Safety Officer

JOB DESCRIPTION – SAFETY OFFICER

The safety officer will assist in maintaining a safe and orderly school environment for both students and faculty.

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 21 years of age

• Must have a high school diploma, GED or higher

• Must demonstrate a previous dependable work ethic and work attendance record

• Must be a person who can work independently without being continually supervised

• Must have acceptable standards and believe in the importance of keeping the school safe and orderly

• Must have excellent communication skills and be comfortable and able in dealing with the public

Reports to: Director of Operations

Performance Responsibilities:

• Provide traffic control services for the transportation department in the morning and afternoon at the high school, as well as the middle school.

• Provide traffic control and supervision services at the crosswalk on Tanyard Road between the Law parking lot and West Campus.

• Provide security and monitoring services at the entrance to the high school campus from Perdue Lane.  This involves stopping all vehicles entering the campus, addressing the driver and occupants of the vehicle and determining the reason for their visit.  A daily log sheet will be completed to document the visit.

• Provide security and supervision services during the regular school day at the high school.  This involves walking the campus and checking hallways, restrooms, parking lots, and other outside areas of the campus.

• Work with the maintenance department and the high school to maintain the grounds of all schools and athletic fields in the division.  This work is carried out when school is not in session.

• Properly maintain any equipment used to carry out the duties of this job.

• Maintain a professional working relationship with students and staff.

• Develop and maintain good work habits emphasizing punctuality, effective use of time, safety, thoroughness and teamwork.

• Accept any additional job duties that may be deemed appropriate and vital for the safe and orderly operation of the high school and the maintenance department.

Terms of Employment:  Salary and conditions to be established by the Franklin County School Board.

Evaluation:  Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board’s policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of classified personnel.
