Library/Media Specialist

JOB DESCRIPTION LIBRARY/MEDIA SPECIALIST 

To conduct the media program in a manner that supports the instructional objectives of the individual school.

Qualifications:

• Hold a professional license in Library Me

dia PreK-12

• Broad knowledge and experience in teaching, media programs, management, and administration of library/media services.

Reports to: Building Principal

Performance Responsibilities:

• to select and acquire materials to implement the curriculum and to meet the individual interest, ability and maturity levels of students.

• to organize and distribute all media and audio-visual equipment for effective use.

• to participate in curriculum planning and program development and implementation and to develop a close working relationship among teachers, principals and other media librarians.

• to create an attractive environment and atmosphere that encourage students and teachers to use the media center.

• to stimulate and guide students in all phases of their reading, viewing, and listening, so that they may effectively assimilate information.

• to provide instruction in cooperation with the staff in media and resource skills.

• to provide media center experiences to help students develop satisfactory personal relationships, social attitudes, and vocation and avocational interests.

• to conduct with teachers and volunteer personnel (adult and student) in-service and other staff development activities in the use of audio-visual equipment and materials.

• to acquaint the staff and students with the media collection and with new materials.

• to assist the principal in ensuring that instructional materials and equipment are used to provide learning experiences compatible with the educational needs of students.

• to perform other duties as assigned by the principal.

Terms of Employment: Ten month year.  Salary to be established by the Board.

Evaluation:

Performance on this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of certified personnel.
