Job Description (Head Golf Coach)

Job Title:  Head Coach - Golf - High School

Reports To:  Principal/Athletic Administrator

Job Summary

This position is responsible for coaching and providing direction to student athletes so they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork in golf.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties of this position included the following.  Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks.  Other duties may be assigned.

1. Follows and maintains knowledge of all district, regional and state policies and procedures.

2. Instructs and demonstrates skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement in the sport.

3. Enforces discipline policies and emphasizes sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles.

4. Plans and sets up activities, practices and games.

5. Maintains a safe environment and facilities for student athletes at all times.

6. Develops appropriate practice plans and schedules.

7. Supervises students in locker rooms, home and away games, ensure appropriate behaviors.

8. Travels with student athletes on the team both to and from away games.

9. Ensure proper cleaning, maintenance of equipment and storage facilities.  Provides a yearly inventory of all equipment.

10. Arranges transportation with the athletic secretary that includes departure times.

11. Makes recommendations regarding the purchase of uniforms, equipment and supplies.

12. Works with the athletic administrator in preparing practice and game schedules.

13. Maintains necessary proper forms (student participation forms, sign in rosters, medical).

14. Maintains necessary records and completes required paperwork in a specified time and manner.

15. Works with the athletic administrator to ensure athletic eligibility.

16. Ensures that appropriate rules and regulations regarding the conduct of athletic activities and athletes are followed.

17. Ensures that medical and safety requirements are adhered to.

18. Interacts with parents, students, staff, opponents, officials and resolves conflict conflict in a professional manner.

19. Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries.

20. Professionally represents the school at all athletic functions and interactions with parents, community and staff.

21. Is punctual to all practices, games and athletic functions.

22. Monitors academic progress of all team members.

Supervisory Responsibilities

All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)

Some experience as a golf coach or assistant coach at the high school or college level preferred.  Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.  Must possess a thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies and techniques of the sport.  Must be able to establish and foster effective working relationships with school administrators, parents and students.

Must completed VHSL Coaches Education course, NFHS Concussion Course, Safety and First Aid, Child Abuse Recognition Training

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

The employee must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job.  Must have the ability to stand for long periods of time, exhibit manual dexterity, see and read a computer, hear and understand speech at normal noise levels.  Possess physical agility and strength to lift 25 pounds or higher.  The applicant must be able to step, stoop, climb stairs and reach overhead.

Work Environment

The work environment is characteristic of a school setting.  Duties are normally performed in a gymnasium setting.  Duties may be performed away from school and the noise level is generally moderate to loud.
